High on the hillside above the water, this garden is best enjoyed by walking up from the road below when one can enjoy the great views. The garden itself is a great haven but for those with some spare time I suggest walking beyond the garden into the surrounding hills. Gorgeous.

A peaceful, tranquil garden. Expertly designed and maintained. Do not miss the paths and trails adjoining the primary garden, especially the ones affording a vista of the harbor. My wife and I got lost on the trails north of the garden -- delightful way to spend 2 - 3 hours.

Beautiful gardens, interesting plants. It's an easy walk from the parking lot, or you can hike up from the road that passes by the Asticou Inn. Be sure to check out the old house on the property, so interesting. You can see great views from the top of the trail that goes down to the road.

I'm kind of a jock not a garden type but I loved this place. Now I don't know much about design like some other reviewers do but I thought the place very beautiful. We went in July which is best I understand to see the flowers in full bloom. An older woman from Orono told me she comes in just... More

The gardens are beautiful and the grounds are well maintained. We hiked up and loved the view of the harbor. We came across this place because we were in an art gallery in Bar Harbor that featured a photographers works which included these garden. This place is not advertised enough. Food is not allowed into the gardens. This place is... More

Very pretty gardens which are peaceful even when busy. Thuya can be reached by hiking trails or by car. The drive up to it is paved but narrow. They don't allow food so don't plan on a picnic.

We've visited in the spring and it's been sort of nice. The varied plantings made us suspect it would be grand in mid-summer. We were right. The proverbial riot of color. Everything so professionally designed in its variety. Many of the items are annuals - what a task that must be; not to mention the man handpicking beetles off the... More

The overlooks on the path up to the gardens capture a beautiful view of Northeast Harbor. It is a little steep, but not a long walk. They also offer the ability to drive to the top. The Curtis house is neat to see and the host offers a lot of information about the time and area. The gardens themselves are... More

During our visit there were few other visitors, which added to the tranquility of the gardens. The sand garden was reminiscent of Ryoanji in Kyoto but smaller and with superior flora. The dogwood blossoms next to the azaleas, Japanese maple and pine trees completed the scene with an exquisite balance of color and texture.
