Oh you don't have to take the stairs! There is a road that goes right to the gardens. These are beautiful with all the flowers labeled. Saw a few impressive ones. The stairs up, over 200, was taxing after a day of hiking and biking, but fun none the less. Has spectacular views of the harbor that you don't get... More

Thuya Garden is very near Asticou Azalea garden, but you should drive over there along the waterfront road. Then walk up the hill to the Garden itself; it isn't too hard, even for +65. Kids will love it. Great views of the NE Harbor Marina as well as lovely gardens.

Dont' miss this garden! You can walk up the perfecly manicured mountain path, or drive up if you are unable, but I highly recommend the path! This garden is a sweet reward, hidden in the woods, wonderful flowers all summer.

Visited the Gardens as part of planning for a Navy Reunion for the Destroyer USS ORLECK DD 886 Association that I am bringing to Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. I fell in love with the area and the Asticou Garden is a must to come to and come back to. I met a couple with child from India... More

We really enjoyed the hike up the terraces, and the reward at the top was spectacular! We have visited many gardens all over the US, and this was by far our favorite. The diversity of plants, flowers, and trees was surprising. We had fun photographing the hummingbirds. The peacefulness was much appreciated, and the staff were quite friendly and knowledgeable.... There was an article about this place in our newspaper today, and we hopped on the motorcycle to visit. So glad we did, what a lovely place. The lodge was getting ready to close for the day when we arrived, but the lovely lady who was the tour guide allowed us in and showed us around the lodge, the summer... More

There is a one lane road entrance to the park. There are no shoulders on this road and only a few places to pull over if another vehicle approaches you from the other direction. It made me a little nervous. The garden does not really compare to the beauty of the Asticou Japanese/Azalea Garden just down the road with much... More

We drove up a very narrow one lane road to get handicapped parking. On the way down we did find ourselves having to back up but the paved ditches are very deep so be aware. Most hiked from a parking area below and that was a nice stroll through the woods on a path. The gardens are something you can go... More

Within walking distance of the Asticou Azalea Garden, but a totally different feel. Less structured/formal and many different kinds of plants and trees. We walked the trail from the Azalea Garden to the Thuya Garden and when we left Thuya, we took the terraced steps back to the street and walked a block or so back to the Azalea Garden... More

Parking is not well marked. To visit the Thula Gardens without climbing the Terrace trail, you need to turn right (if you're coming from Seal Harbor) off of rte. 3 onto Thula Drive. To enter by way of the Terraces, just past the harbor, on the left is another small parking lot. (All this is in the pamphlet which, unfortunately,... More
