Thuya Gardens is well worth the visit if you garden and are vacationing on Mount Desert Island. It's located away from the hustle-bustle of Bar Harbor, on a hillside overlooking the harbor. As you climb the stairs from the street, you can see lovely views of the water. But the prettiest part is at the top of the stairs and... More

Hey, I am the driver for the gardener in the family. This garden is simply fresh. Every flower is pruned to perfection time. I can say no more. Choose to walk up a fairly steep short path, or settle for the drive-up.

Thuya garden is the creation of a turn-of-the-last-century philanthropist who wanted to provide a lovely site for MDI wanderers, and those who have followed his vision have helped cultivate a delightful property. Park in the little lot on Rt 3, around the corner from the Asticou Inn, and climb up the hill that offers stunning vistas of Northeast Harbor. The... More

Beautiful and a fun family hike away. We all tried to pick our favorite Dahlia only to find a prettier one in the next couple of steps. Donations only, but well-deserved to maintain this little garden of Eden. My husband unfortunately is allergic to bees - so warning - they are busy at work maintaining this magnificent garden.

Very artistic setting for a multitude of blooms and colors. Almost everything is labeled. If you drive to the upper parking lot, you will find limited parking and a narrow, but short road to navigate. Professional caretakers ensure there are flowers to see all season. Eye-appealing blend of colors. Several private and protected places to sit and take in the... More

Just spent several hours with a friend who has never been to these gardens and we were overwhelmed with the beauty of these gardens. So many varieties and such rich blossoms, absolutely worth the hike up to them or drive. There is no fee, but a donation of $5.00 is posted upon the entrance - and worth it to help... More

The walk up the cliff to Thuya Gardens is worth the hike (you can drive it, but it is a well designed trail). You get lovely views all along the path, and then are offered a beautiful surprise at the end. The gardens are in great shape, with a great display of perennials and annuals. Well labeled, it is highly... More
