First of all, the Bold Coast is actually a region in Washington County that basically runs along the coastline from Milbridge to Lubec, then north on to Eastport. There is a Bold Coast Scenic route that is marked by roadside signs and takes you through some beautiful rural areas dotted with quaint fishing villages, lighthouses, churches, cemeteries, fields of blueberries,... We took the 1.5 mile Cutler Trail to the overlook. It was a fairly easy trail that most persons in reasonable shape can do. The conditions when we hiked were dry. There were logs through all of the wet spots, and it looked like it could get fairly sloppy if it there had been rain. The overlook is gorgeous, a... More

the Bold Coast in Main stretches from Milbridge to Lubec then to Eastport Maine. There are many fishing villages, great places to visit with Rocky Coasts, Light houses State parks, walking trails and great visits to see and photograph

We took the 1.5 miles trail to the cliffs in one hour. Early morning is the coolest as the sun gets higher the woods get hotter. Take sun screen, bug spray and lots of water. The cliffs are beautiful and undeveloped. We only saw six people all day. We chose to skip the next 1.2 miles along the woods and... More

We have done this hike numerous times and every time the end is worth it. We only go as far as the cliffs on the coast then sit on the rocks above the waves and have lunch, returning the way we came in. The trail goes all the way around for a longer hike if you prefer.

Go, just go! Breathtaking, good walk. Views of the open ocean and an occasional lobster boat were just what we needed. Only met 2 other parties and had a nice chat about our trips. Take some bug spray just in case the mosquitoes are hungry.

Drove from Massachusetts ( 365 miles) to see this place. Seen it on Chronicle and had to go.I went with my friend to hike it. We only did a 5.5 mile hike ( partial) because it was a little more than just walking on easy pine needle type trails. The view was worth it!!!! This is something to do on... More

While much of the coast of Maine can be very rocky, the beach at Roque Bluffs (just about five miles from Machias) is beautiful. It's not a crowded place, but it's beautiful and peaceful...also sandy, and the view is absolutely fantastic. Can walk from one end of the beach to the other and get a good workout. There always seems... More

A wonderful and fun filled hike on a beautiful clear day. Hike 1.4 miles on a well marked trail out to a magnificent view of the ocean meeting the cliffs. Saw eagles and seals and beautiful wildflowers. Hiking the 5.5 miles took about 3.5 hrs with time to explore and eat lunch. Lots of ups and downs and uneven ground-... More
