Description:

This is a demonstration of lobster fishing and information about lobster...

This is a demonstration of lobster fishing and information about lobster biology, Maine lobster fisheries, commercial aspects of the fishery and last but not least, some local history. Fun for the whole family.

The Rugosa is a real wooden lobster boat out on the Gulf of Maine and is not really appropriate for children under 4 years of age. There are no facilities for baby changing and very young children are often times, a distraction to the rest of the guests aboard the boat enjoying the presentation. Baby sitting services are available in the area and the Nonantum resort has the contact info for these services.

I would highly suggest taking this tour! It was truly a unique and memorable experience! We enjoyed seeing the traps being brought up out of the water, handling the lobster, and most of all learning more about the Maine lobster industry! The trip was both interesting and entertaining. The Captain, "The Brooklyn Sea Captain," and his mate were friendly, answered... More

The captain and his assistant were a great team. It was quite wavy so did not go out very far. There were several children on board so they made sure all were safe and kept entertained. The information on eggers--female lobsters carrying eggs- which the lobster cage brought up was very interesting, they carry the eggs on the underside curling... More

We had a wonderful time on the Rugosa; the captain and his assistant gave us a great tour of the Kennebunkport area, amazing history of the lobstering business, including the biology of lobsters; we even got to hold lobsters that were brought up in their traps. A great value.

Very enjoyable hour or so out on the water. The Rugosa crew made the boat trip fun and informative. Lobster cages were hauled up out of the water and the crew discussed everything you want to know about lobsters and passed some around. Well worth your time and good for kids too. The boat has bench seating around the perimeter... More

Our family really enjoyed this tour. My 7 and 5 year old boys were ecstatic to hold lobsters on a real lobster boat. Captain Bob and his crew were very good at including the kids, providing tons of information about lobsters and the lobstering business and made everyone on the boat comfortable. Very enjoyable tour!!

What a fun, affordable and informative boat tour. Captain Bob was so kind and knowledgable. Thanks to him and Chris, we learned so much about lobster including hands on experience with banding and holding them. What a family friendly educational nature adventure around Walkers Point area. Captain and naturalist narrator haul lobster traps and explain the fascinating habits of these ancient crustaceans, which can live to a hundred! Breeding females, snapping males, and sometimes even a minuscule baby lobster may be part of your voyage. Well worth the nominal fee and 1-1/2 hour cruise! Take... More
