Having been to both Echo Lake (near Bar Harbor) and Long Pond (on the much more remote Isle au Haut), I think this reviewer is confused... Though there are private vacation rentals on Long Pond there is no beach or picnic area. Echo Lake in the main part of Acadia has all those things, and is as awesome as described.... More

This is a great swimming alternative to the cold ocean! From the beach access there is a picnic table and a convenient area to put kayaks in as well as swimming for little ones. For those with a little more adventure, you can go to the "Deep End" and jump off rocks to swim out to the raft. This is... More
