Visit the Harlow Gallery in the heart of historic Hallowell on the Kennebec...

Visit the Harlow Gallery in the heart of historic Hallowell on the Kennebec River, home to the Kennebec Valley Art Association) The KVAA has been promoting the arts and artists of central Maine since 1958. We are a membership-based 501(c)3 non-profit currently serving over 300 members. We value and encourage all artists, and art for all ages, believing that everyone can benefit from the arts. Come see our latest art exhibition when you visit Hallowell! At the Harlow, we strive to present a broad and inclusive selection of the art being created in Maine today; art by promising or under-appreciated artists; art from a range of approaches, disciplines, and subject matter, including political or contemporary art that some may find challenging; and shows that have the potential to appeal to new audience (recent examples would be exhibitions dealing with issues of domestic violence, mental illness, global warming, and our society’s love affair with the automobile). Besides art exhibitions, we present monthly ArtTalks, plus arts workshops and classes and other special events of interest to artists and art lovers.

You don't need to be on the coast to find a nice gallery

This is a wonderful little gallery with member exhibitons and other shows limited to a handful of artists. It never disappoints!

The Harlow art gallery in hallowell Maine has made it! Actually it made it many, many, years ago to those of us in central Maine and beyond. But to those who want to find Maine talent that shines, this is the one. Enjoy the ambience, the unique qualities of artists with names like Hetherly, Herman, Morrissey, Shuppien, and Markley to... This place is very small, as galleries go, but it is very worthy. The presentations change every month. There is always an opening night. Some mighty wonderful stuff has threaded its way through there during the last few years, in variety. Workshops, too.

We stopped in during our stay in Augusta to see the gallery and get some information about the Kennebec Valley Art Association. The woman that was manning the gallery was very friendly and informative and the exhibit was well presented. Hallowell is a great little town with an obvious appreciation of the arts! Definitely worth a visit!

The Harlow Gallery celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Under the excellent direction of Deb Fahy and Nancy Barron a visitor to the gallery will find a rotating series of presentations that not only bring big city art to this charming city on the banks of the Kennebec River but also support and nurture local artists. The Gallery also serves... More
