We enjoy this ride every year if we can. One year we had to stop at Rockport to mail back everything that wouldn't fit on the Goldwing we ride. Only problem we've ever had was getting through Wells, ME in the summer. Best to take a small detour up the highway for two exits and hop back on Rt 1... More

We were so excited to drive "Scenic US 1 Coastal Highway" We drove from freeport, ME to Acadia National Park. It took us 4 1/2 hours, all but 2 of the towns were run down and dirty hole in the roads, and there were only 2 or 3 30 second glimses of the coast. We were so disgusted we almost... More

Maine is a beautiful State with lots of unique Coastal homes. We just loved the scenic drive along US 1. Friendly people that waved back with a smile. I am from Texas, but I could live here if the winters weren't so cold, Ha Ha! More

Always a gorgeous ride when you aren't in a hurry. During the summers it can get very busy with traffic and road work. More

One of the things Maine natives hear repeatedly from potential visitors is that they can't wait to drive "the US 1 coastal highway and see the ocean." The problem with that assertion, and the expectations it expresses, is that, for much of its length, there are no ocean views from US 1 in Maine. It is our "coastal" highway because... More

Some places are really pretty, some have the ubiquitous flea market, junk store, antique store clusters. In and out of Wiscasset can be horrible on a summers day. Traffic backs up for miles as the road narrows, gets slower and stops for pedestrians walking to the overrated Reds Eats. Best traveled in the mornings before 10 and northbound in afternoons after... This place is for you.  Besides the 24-hour-365-days-per-year LL Bean store, there are a myriad of other shops and eateries to enjoy!  Bring lots of money;  Freeport's pricey. More

US 1 in Maine is the best way to see the coast; once you cross the bridge in Bath, you begin to drive through fishing villages and small cities on the waterfront. Beware US 1 in the height of summer, however. Can be long waits to get through Wiscasset. More
