Fun Scenic and historic train ride! for an hour and a half you can tour the local area from the comfort of the seating on the train-let the engineer do the driving for a bit, slow down, and remember history.

The ride is nothing spectacular, but the conductors are wonderful with the kids and talk to them about the history of the train, the route and how they are turning the train around. The cars are beautifully redone and it is wonderful to support the efforts.

My kids love train rides, and we have taken "scenic" train rides in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Wyoming. This was NOT scenic. You go through town, the engine unhooks, then you go back through town, and through a small wetland area. It was ugly, and pointless. I honestly could not believe that it was the entire trip, I thought surely they... More

Our ALL VOLUNTEER staff has worked very hard to restore the vintage railroad equipment and the rail line at the Downeast Scenic Railroad. We are in our 5th year of operation, which is new compared to the other railroads mentioned. We have grown each year and our goal is to reach Green Lake and offer more trip options and a... More

Nice train ride through along a preserved train track. The turn around is particularly interesting. Families would have a fun time on this ride, just long enough-even for smaller kids.

Nice option to shopping at LL Bean on a rainy day. It's great to see and imagine how life used to be in this little crossroads town. My only complaint is that the ride doesn't loop around so we see the same sights twice. Coming and going. Great for the kids for sure!

Yes this is not a train ride to anywhere or see anything. It is a ride on a train to feel the train move sway and bump along. that is all. I love riding the caboose way above the tracks. This ride may disappoint some but not me.

If you have kids under 6 years old the will love this. "Engineers" are friendly and play it up to the kids. Otherwise, the other reviews give you all the negative details...

I really hate to be negative but this train ride was the most epic misrepresentation of information given on their website ever. Lame! SLOW!. Backward. Forward. Horn. Stop. Horn. Horn. Stop. Stop. Backward . Forward. If you would like a 5 minute view of Ellsworth High School twice, both coming and going, this is the trip for you! The "scenic"... More

If you're a train enthusiast this is well worth your time and money because: you get to see an engine shift from one end to the other, but even better, you get to be on a train switch direction using a wye. You don't see that except on a model railroad. AND you get to see huge bird (eagle or... More

We found this delightful attraction by accident! The train has been restored and is operated by volunteers. Although a short ride we learned so much! The volunteers are clearly passionate about rail travel and have so much to offer. My 4 year old granddaughter enjoyed the ride as much as we did.
