First off, the volunteers who run this ride are wonderful, informative and genuinely love what they do. If you just want to go on a train and enjoy the experience of being on a train and see how trains switch tracks, you will relax and enjoy chugging along for the 90min. We did see an osprey nest and a few... More

This 90 minute train ride is very fun and is run 100% by volunteers that love railroads. Nicely restored passenger cars, inexpensive snacks and water onboard, and nice souvenirs. $15/adult, $8/child for the ride. Worth every penny if your child enjoys different experiences and is not glues to an IPhone or Gameboy. I see this little operation growing in the... More

I took my grandchildren who were visiting from Florida on this train and they had so much fun, we have to make this part of their visit every time they come to Maine!!

The train ride was boring. You will literally go 3/4 of a mile, stop, switch directions and go a little further and go back. The people working the train were very nice and informative and we did get to see some osprey and their nests. The ride was not exciting and my children were very bored.

Wow what a disappointment. This train ride sounded fabulous but was a bust. First of all, they say it is a 90 minute ride, ha. Once you depart, you ride down the tracks and see nothing but back yards of houses. Then the train stops for awhile even though it just left!!! It switches the engine from front to back... More

The folks here are helpful and very friendly. The facilities and the trains are well-maintained and is like stepping into a bygone era. As others have noted, referring to this as a "Scenic Railroad" is maybe a bit of a stretch. It is certainly a picturesque ride, but don't expect any grand vistas. I went with friends and their 2... Our boys love trains and were excited to go on one. The crew was very friendly and knowledgeable they even let us in the engine when we got back to the boarding area. The views were awesome. And it's run by all volunteers. We will be going again.

Unless you just truly love trains, don't bother. In this area everything is lovely but I would by no means call this a scenic trip. And forget about seeing wildlife. You'll pass by Ellsworth HS twice though, so there's that. 😒

It was a bit cool when we were there, but still a fun trip. Before going go to (www.downeastscenicrail.org) for information and to see how you can get tickets . Volunteers are really a lot of help and full of information about the ride and what you will see. We rode a train like this in N.C. and loved it,... More
