This a very well-presented museum: very interesting special international exhibition on needlework as an expression of experience of violence and wishes for peace. There are workshops to be held along with the exhibition. (quilts, patchwork and arpilleras) the permanent exhibiton has 5 main parts, each well done. The first is about understand what Peace is. It is thoughtful and inclusive... More

Visiting the museum is quite a moving experience, especially the audio visual experience which simulates the day of the bombing As if you were sitting in one of the resident's dining rooms. The staff at the front desk will play the English version if you request it. Also there is an English version available of the reconciliation film which is... More

It's a very moving experience. The audio visual room puts context to the whole visit. The sound and looking at yourself in a room prior to the bombardment, makes the senselessness of war very real.

We spent a very nice hour there, it's worth visiting. The room with audio-visual presentation was very interesting.

This place is mostly about the very first air raid on civilians in history, the event that inspired Picasso to create "La Guernica" Even those who know just a little bit about the history of Spanish Civil War will be amazed by this compact-size museum. Especially the recreation of a lady's dining room (mrs Begonia, if I recall correctly) in... More

The town is certainly worth visiting but the peace museum is pretty disappointing. Too little information about the bombing by the Germans and Italians and too much cheesy "peace is good" propaganda. It's probably not politically correct to give a negative review on a peace museum so visit and make up your own mind

Gernika is a village that suffered an extraordinarily cruel bombing in 1937. This town has reinvented and resignified itself as a town for the promotion of peace and reconciliation. This museum is a stunningly well thought out journey starting with concepts of peace from renowned peace studies academics, through historical reconstruction of the bombing in Gernika, to ideas of reconciliation,... We made a point to visit Gernika after hearing about it all our lives, by the grace of Hemingway, Picasso, so many others. I had read up on it once again in Worthington's book, The Basque Country, before my visit to this museum. Among other things, I was fascinated that the Condor Legion, the Nazi air force that bombed Gernika... More

A previous reviewer has much more experience than we have of such exhibits around the world and I take on board much of what was said.I am sure this could be made even more memorable, however as this was our first visit to the Basque Country I did a little research and was horrified how little I knew or understood about... The museum has a wonderful mission: to promote peace in the world. The various exhibits present aspects of this theme. I thought the room that had you experience what happened via an audio experience was very effective, The room with the glass floor showing the rubble of a house was very effective.
