beautiful side trip

Beautiful glacial lake which wander through the mountains and forest. Guests who visit say the ride on the lake is the high light of their visit.

We view the lake from the top of Camden State Park lookout. Swam in the lake at the beach. Beach is small and nothing to right home about & not a really clean picnic area. That being said, at least it was water to swim and cool off after a big hike. Water is shallow.

We enjoyed driving around this lake and looking at the various summer homes on it's bank. There are a couple of small, public beaches where you can swim and put a small boat or kayak in the water.

we picked up sandwiches on the way and spent the afternoon by the lake. Water was a little cold, but didn't stop the teen and 2 little ones from jumping right in. From here, we hiked up Maiden's Trail (trail head right across the road). Even our almost 3 year old was able to make it up the mountain

Lake was smooth and inviting for kayaking, swimming and fishing. Top it off with a beverage on the dock just beautiful and relaxing. Also did the Maidens Cliff trail. A bit tricky in spots with steep terrain, rocks, and trees to climb over. Well worth the stunning view from the top and discovering the legend behind the cross.

My in laws have a home on this lake and it is beautiful. The lake is so big and there's plenty of room for swimming at the public beach or relaxing on our private dock.

We climbed to trail to the top of Mount Megunticook ,part of which leads you to the Maidens Cliff overlook ,which looks out over Lake Megunticook. The trail is difficult in some spots due to the constant elevation of climbing over rocks and being carefull not to slip but its worth it.Stunning view at the top.No picture can really top reality!!You... For a perfect afternoon, rent a kayak at Maine Sport Outfitters and spend a quiet and relaxing few hours on Lake Megunticook. Easy parking and lake access is at the lake's public beach.

We kayaked out in the lake and the view was breathtaking. There are all kinds of coves you can go in to and picnic/jump in to the water.

If you are a kayaker or boater, do not miss this lake. It is a maze of many coves, islands, and open stretches, offering easy paddling and great variety. If you are a fisherman, the lake is well stocked with bass, trout, land-locked salmon, and pan fish. It is hard to go home empty-handed. The best part is the mountain... More
