Really lovely for relaxing, boating, or swimming (within the ropes off the designated sandy beach). It's a bit marshy around some of the picnic tables, but is a beautiful spot to visit.

The sandy beach area slopes very gently into the lake and is perfect for families that want to splash around a lot without getting too deep too fast.

As near-beginner kayakers taking our first independent paddle (I was in a tandem with my slightly-more-experienced husband), Megunticook proved a perfect setting to strike out on our own. We found lots of islands and coves to explore, and encountered other boaters and swimmers but didn't feel crowded. Extremely relaxing experience full of wildlife. Very easy to put in a kayak... More

lake with hills in background for a pretty setting. Quiet lake with row boats and sail boats. Public boat launch sites are on the lake too.

Lake Megunticook is the best lake in Maine for kayaking and canoeing. It's got a very interesting shore line with lots of little inlets as well as a number of islands in the lake. Because of it's shape it's not really conducive to water skiing and jet skiing so there are not a lot of those types of crafts on... More

Plenty of spots around this lake in Camden to swim, or even better put in for canoeing. Quiet and easy lake (except when a heavy sea breeze kicks up) to paddle, it's just a fun and relaxing time and place. I don't fish, so no idea about fishing. The swimming, canoeing, and picnicking opportunities are endless. Check this out for... More

This was a fun stop BUT just drive the shore line. Get a map or google maps and drive around and see the area. Rockport and Rockland have a lot to offer. If you are looking for great opportunities to get pictures of Maine....This is how you do it.

Megunticook Lake is a short drive from Camden. It's easy to drive around most of the lake. Views of the surrounding area are nice. There are many places with public access for swimming. The water temperature is pleasant in the summer. This would be a great place to paddle for the day.

There is a boat launch and parking area. We took our kayaks and completely covered the lake. HUGE boulders in the lake are evidence that at one point in time, there are have been landslides. I would recommend anyone who is entertaining taking a motor boat, consider this.
