For the first time, Bowdoin College Museum of Art partnered in 2015 with the Bowdoin International Music Festival (held on campus in July) to host two free 11 am concerts in a gallery in its McKim, Mead and White building. A chamber concert in a chamber! What a concept! And a very successful joint venture, devoutly hoped to be repeated.... More

Bowdoin College is a beautiful old liberal arts college with a long list of distinguished graduates. The free museum is definitely worth the visit. The exhibits are of high quality. My only complaint is that was some sort of lecture during our visit--after which the participants held a "social hour" in the museum, which made it hard to concentrate. That... More

Enjoyed the Nocturnal Visions show & exploring more of the classic Maine Painters (Homer Winslow, Wyeths, etc)... can't beat the price... FREE... wander the campus beforehand... great afternoon TO DO item while in Brunswick.

I'll admit - I don't really 'get' a lot of art, but my wife loves this stuff, so I reluctantly went to check it out. They had an exhibit by some guy I've never heard of whos art was ridiculous (to me) - hated it! And he was some famous artist who sold some of his works for a million... More

As is always the case, the collection reflects what donors and estates provide, more than curators. But there are episodic focused shows, this current one being on art done or reflecting on night, and they are interesting. It will give you a taste of Wyeth to be explored much better further up the road.

We recently sojourned to Brunswick to take in, "Night Vision: Nocturnes in American Art." at Bowdoin's Art Museum. This was our 3rd trip to a special show at the BMOA, and we were once again delighted. The somewhat compact space necessitates a smaller show, which can be adequately viewed in less than an hour. In truth, I find that aspect... More

This beautiful building is filled with amazing art that I can't really appreciate but know that I should! It is free and has new exhibits that come through every so often so there is always something new to check out and enjoy.

Lovely and vibrant small college town. Excellent museum for a visit. Diverse and world class contents, nicely laid out and presented. Big crowds are not a problem and access is easy.

Nothing is free these days, but this sweet little museum is! I have been impressed by every gallery I have visited here. I bring in friends from out of town often, when we are looking to kill a rainy day.

Given the reported destruction of Assyrian antiquities in Iraq, the wall carvings on display at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art are even more important. It's rather remarkable they ended up in Brunswick in the first place and are well worth a visit. Also incredible is the Andrew Wyeth painting 'Night Haulings', which somehow manages to capture bioluminescence. It's stunning.
