Recent renovations added a glass enclosed entrance set to the side of the original building and street side now enclosed by a glass wall protecting early mid-east reliefs initially seem incongruent to the setting. But once entry is made, these modern additions pay due respect to the original building and the contents. Small galleries allow for viewing at one's own... More

While this museum is small, it has a wonderful collection. From Sumerian sculptures to fine early American portraits, Rockwell Kents, Winslow Homers....all very well arranged in a gem of a building. The fact that is is free to all is a very nice gift from Bowdoin to the visitors.

My time in Brunswick was limited, however I was highly impressed with the exhibit on offer, and the space itself. Great way to pass time being a solo traveler in Maine

the rooms are well organized by theme and spacious, . As Bowdoin is wont to do, the architecture does not match anything else on campus. There is a modern glass tower that houses an elevator from the below-ground levels to the surface, and it looks like it was designed to match a glass Apple store. I attended a series of... More

Frankly, I was not expecting a lot from an art museum at a small liberal-arts college in Maine. I was, therefore, surprised to find several very well curated, if rather unrelated, exhibits. There's a superb collection of prints and engravings by impressionist artists - Degas, Pissarro, Rodin - which, although lacking the immediate impact of their paintings (and sculpture) is... More

We were quite impressed with the lecture and open house in honor of the Tuttle exhibit that we attended on Oct 2. Visiting Bar Harbor for the Night Sky Festival and flying in and out if Portland we included the art museum in our itinerary from the start. We were curious there were not more people attending but as the... More

The Richard Tuttle exhibit was so thoughtfully designed. I was just exploring the area and happened upon the museum. I spent 2 hours simply enthralled by the works and the descriptions from the curator. Truly an enjoyment. The Jazz exhibit and the Assyrian Gallery were wonderful as well.

This outstanding college art museum not long ago acquired an excellent addition to its historic building and reorganized its display areas. Programming has included several temporary exhibits, which may be a strength here.

A new addition a few years ago and strong programming make this worth a drive. The William Wegman show was witty and interesting and well hung/organized.
