Sri Mayapur is a sublimely beautiful village on the sacred bank of river Ganga, lovingly known as mother Ganga. Geographically, it's situated around 130km north of Calcutta (Kolkata) in West Bengal state of India. ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) or the Hare Krishna movement has its headquarters here. It is the birthplace of Sri Krishna Chaitanya, who appeared in... More

Since long I had nurtured a dream of visiting Mayapur, the birth place of ISKON and the origin of Gaudiya Vaishnbites propounded by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.Travelling by car for about 130 km by road from Kolkata, I reached this holy shrine of Radha-Krishna in less than 3 hours. Once inside the ISKON complex which houses couple of temples like Chandrodaya... More

I had visited Mayapur years back in 1985 and loved the place. That memory took me back in 2015 but the old charm has totally disappeared. It is more like a huge complex with construction work under progress throughout. Food was my main problem. Govinda's restaurant the only food outlet is not open throughout the day, has staff shortage, and... More

Away from Kolkata this is a very calm place for Hindus, specially Lord Krishna bhaktas. The Temple and its areas are very attractive and well maintained.

Both the places are equally charming to visit. While travelling from Kolkata it is better to jouirney by own/ hired car (130 kilometer by car), otherwise have to do break journeys. The birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Also the ISCKON headquarter is situated in Mayapur. The Radha Govind Temple and also the Chandrodaya Temple is beautiful. These two cities are... More

A place worth visiting, will love to be in the company of Lord KRISHNA & RADHA.Birthplace of Shri Chaitainya Mahaprabhu pracheen Mayapur is also worth visiting. Merging point of river Ganga and river Khode which comes from Bangladesh and merges here you can diffentiate the water of both the rivers by their colour.

A very vibrant and attractive temple complex. Very picturesque and well maintained too.Excellent facilities as well. Serene?? No way, always crowded and noisy except in the early mornings. One very strange things comes to notice is the racism on display there are different sets of rules for whites and locals. The condescending and arrogant attitude of the volunteer in strange dresses... More

We visited this off the Assam Bengal Navigation ship. We are not believers. It was very interesting to see the existing temple and the incomplete new "vedic planetarium ", which is going to be vast when it is finished, especially as we have encountered believers at home in the UK and not understood the set of beliefs. I'd politely disagree... More
