A Puffin-watching cruise is kind of like an ocean-going treasure hunt… you just never know what's going to show up! As we travel through Boothbay Harbor and search for all the marvelous sea creatures which call this area their home, seals often surface near the boat, or can be found sunning themselves on the rocks. A loon flies by. A Minke Whale surprises everyone with its sheer size and bulk. And, of course there are lighthouses, which we know as permanent treasures here on the New England coast. As the boat gets to Eastern Egg Rock, everyone is up and looking around for those pint-sized little Puffins. We scan the rocks and the skies, and then someone shouts, and lo and behold there is a group of Puffins sitting in the water, bobbing up and down, perhaps 50 or 60 feet from the boat. More fly by, and soon someone spots a bunch sitting on the granite boulders along shore.

Since I was staying at Cap'n Fish Hotel, I was able to get a discounted rate on the boat. This is a three hour tour. On the day of my tour the weather was perfect clear blue sky's and nice temps but bring a jacket, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. On this trip you get a view of the rivers... More

This is not a review of Captain Fish's Puffin Cruise, but one the other trips they offer. This is a review of the 44 mile trip along Southport Island and into the open sea then up the Kennebec River was remarkable. The day we went was foggy and cold, but we still had a great time. The first part of... More

We took the 1 and 1/4 hour (shorter) cruise to see a few lighthouses, the coastline surrounding the area, and many seals; also a demo of how lobster traps are hauled up; the captain was excellent with his narrative and it was also just FUN to see some of the homes along the coastline, identify various islands, and hear some... We went on the Puffin Nature cruise the second week in August. A beautiful way to spend a couple of hours. We are so happy we went.

We saw porpoises, eider ducks, cormorants, osprey and of course gulls. We, also, saw five lighthouses, fishing villages, beautiful homes, both new and historic on this two hour, well narrated tour. The seas were flat, the sun bright with gentle sea breezes. A perfect day for this wonderful tour. The boat it newer and in excellent condition. Soft drinks, beer... More

We had a great time on our puffin cruise today. The seas were calm and the temps perfect. The boat cruises out to Egg Island for some puffin watching. We were not disappointed. An Audubon naturalist narrates the trip. The birds are small. Good idea to bring binoculars. Also, boat filled up quickly, so get there early to get a... More

We were thrilled with the Puffin Nature Cruise out of Boothbay Harbor! The Captain did a great job pointing out the shoreline sights during the trip out to Eastern Egg Island. As we got closer, the representative from the Puffin Project took over and did a wonderful job of explaining the project history to re-establish the puffin colony, teaching about... More

Cap'n Fish's Puffin Tour was spectacular. This tour offered us a whale, a sunfish, a basking shark, porpoises, seals, and many, many beautiful sea birds. July is prime time for puffins, soon they will winter out at sea. We saw large groups of them at Little Egg Island off the coast of Maine. The puffins would have been enough, but... More

Super informative naturalist talk about the creatures of the area en route. The boat is comfortable but by no means luxurious. The puffins were a treat to get to after the hour long ride out to Egg Island, especially with the enthusiasm of the naturalist as he spotted them and pointed them out to the passengers. It would have been... More

When booking online for a trip that was still 2 weeks out I realized I made a mistake and IMMEDIATELY called their office to request a credit. I was told that they have a "no refund" policy because "my space was being guaranteed for the event". Really? As if they were fully booked 2 weeks out and were losing thousands... More
