A Puffin-watching cruise is kind of like an ocean-going treasure hunt… you just never know what's going to show up! As we travel through Boothbay Harbor and search for all the marvelous sea creatures which call this area their home, seals often surface near the boat, or can be found sunning themselves on the rocks. A loon flies by. A Minke Whale surprises everyone with its sheer size and bulk. And, of course there are lighthouses, which we know as permanent treasures here on the New England coast. As the boat gets to Eastern Egg Rock, everyone is up and looking around for those pint-sized little Puffins. We scan the rocks and the skies, and then someone shouts, and lo and behold there is a group of Puffins sitting in the water, bobbing up and down, perhaps 50 or 60 feet from the boat. More fly by, and soon someone spots a bunch sitting on the granite boulders along shore.

Cap'n Fish's Puffin Tour was spectacular. This tour offered us a whale, a sunfish, a basking shark, porpoises, seals, and many, many beautiful sea birds. July is prime time for puffins, soon they will winter out at sea. We saw large groups of them at Little Egg Island off the coast of Maine. The puffins would have been enough, but... More

Super informative naturalist talk about the creatures of the area en route. The boat is comfortable but by no means luxurious. The puffins were a treat to get to after the hour long ride out to Egg Island, especially with the enthusiasm of the naturalist as he spotted them and pointed them out to the passengers. It would have been... More

When booking online for a trip that was still 2 weeks out I realized I made a mistake and IMMEDIATELY called their office to request a credit. I was told that they have a "no refund" policy because "my space was being guaranteed for the event". Really? As if they were fully booked 2 weeks out and were losing thousands... More

This is a great boat ride that lets you see some of Maine's coast from the water. The boat is a very nice, well maintained large tour boat with upper deck and inside lower deck with snack and drink bar. The captain points out all interesting points on ride out and back as well as the Harbor dolphins that are... More

This is a great tour for anyone who wants to see Puffins. Our weather was beautiful and we saw lots of Puffins and other birds. The scenery going and coming back is very nice as you can see the coastline all the way out and back. That being said here are some pointers: Arrive early to get a good parking space... More

Took our reserved trip to East Egg Island, and of course it was a very foggy day. However, Audubon and crew narrators provided interesting information, and Egg Island was an amazing rookery of may types of seabirds. Please note that the Audubon items sold on the cruise were several dollars cheaper than in Bay shops. On the spur of the moment,... More

Did it his tour on a very foggy day but apparently, fog keeps the puffins close to their island nesting site so we were literally bombarded by puffins - flying, swimming, hanging out in colonies on the Rocky island. Bring binoculars and be prepared to grin widely and constantly!

Despite the foggy weather, we sailed off to Egg Rock Island. We saw many birds and the star of the tour - the puffins! The people for Project Puffin were very informative and that passed the time quickly. They were willing and able to answer any and all questions about these quirky birds. *If you are not happy with the... More

The 2 1/2 hour cruise consists of a 1 hour boat ride each way and 1/2 hour circling Egg Island that is a heavily used nesting site. Enroute, they have some excellent speakers that tell you about the birds and the history of them being wiped out and brought back. Once there, we saw lots of birds, but getting good... More

Some of the proceeds are used to help ocean birds, but the puffins are really the main attraction. However, if one doesn't have binoculars or cameras with capability to enlarge the photo because we didn't see the puffins at all, except from a great distance and are easily confused with the lobster traps, which have the colors of the puffins....
