The people sailing this schooner are the builders of the boat or their offspring. The boat is sixth in a line built by Captain Herb Smith and his incredibly hard working wife Doris. The two hour trip out to the outer islands of Boothbay Harbor is totally relaxing and quiet as the small engine is only used when docking. Scenery... More

We enjoyed sailing on the Eastwind but the captain seemed to be more into himself and the shirt he was wearing with his name on it than giving us an education about our surroundings. When I asked him the name of the Lighthouse we were passing, he said I'm glad you asked that question. Give me a break!! We passed... More

The first morning of our short trip to Boothbay Harbor, Maine we walked across the wooden bridge into town to "shop" for a boat cruise. The first ship we came to, the Eastwind, was just about to head out on the 10:00 am trip. We climbed aboard and headed out of the harbor with 7 other passengers and Doris and... More

Great way to relax and enjoy the ocean views. Highlights included the knowledgeable captain, seeing the lighthouse and islands up close and a porpoise sighting. We went about 20 minutes over the 2 hour timeframe so we saw the next group of visitors waiting on the pier. Good for us, but glad we were on the first trip of the... More

It was the perfect outing; good wind, lots of harbor seals, great hosts (Earl and Doris Smith) and great stories about life in the Harbor and the adventures of the Smith family on their around the world trips on a schooner which they built! Talk about two people who are self reliant, adventuresome, capable in so many ways and yet... More

We had an enjoyable/fun 2.5 hours sailing on the Eastwind in Boothbay Harbor. We relaxed and had a peaceful sail without motor noises. There was no rush and could enjoy the scenery at a much slower pace. Also, had fun manning the ropes and hoisting sails with the guidance of the Captain Sean and first mate Jerry. We had trouble... We had a relaxing and informative morning sail with Capt. Sean and First Mate Sally. The day was sunny and the winds were perfect! I never knew there were so many lobster traps out there! Besides learning about the local area, we also learned about sailing, lobstering and wind. You were able to help with the ropes if interested. We... More

This was a highly enjoyable 2 hr trip on a lovely schooner. Captain Bob was very good at what he does and very personable. He added spice and interest to the trip. This is the best way to get a short hand experience of what it must be like to sail in a schooner. The vistas are lovely and depending... More

I have a home in Boothbay and I sail aboard the Eastwind frequently. I owned a sailboat for many years and this provides me some quality time under sail. I have always found the captain and crew friendly and accommodating. Of course as with all sailboats wind is a major factor. I have found through my experience that sail trips... More

My husband and I loved every minute of the Eastwind sailing experience. The day we chose was sunny but with plenty of wind. The ticket sales agent, Cindy Geddry was friendly and enthusiastic about the ship and crew and the experience we were about to enjoy. There were four other people with us on the 3 p.m. trip. After we... More
