Description: Lazy Jack takes her lines from the traditional Gloucester fishing...
Lazy Jack takes her lines from the traditional Gloucester fishing schooners of the 1850's and has had a colorful and notorious history as a fishing and passenger charter schooner. During the early years Lazy Jack sailed between the East Coast, Man O War Key and Cuba running guns, rum, cigars and bananas. Today Lazy Jack offers 2 hr. day sails or private charters from Pier 1 in Boothbay Harbor celebrating 66 years of continuous sailing and 10 years as Boothbay Harbors only historic working schooner. Lazy Jack is owner operated by Captain Joe Tassi and his son Michael.

My husband and I recently took trip on the Schooner Lazy jack. This was one of the best boat day trips we have ever taken... The Captain was extremely friendly, answering all my annoying questions which I must have asked the entire trip. Captain Joe was very informative and kept our attention the entire trip. Even when the wind died... More

I went on both the Schooners in Boothbay Harbor and here is my truth of the Eastwind and Lazy Jack. I did not personally get the Tripadvisor "pep talk" on my trip with Captain Gil on the Eastwind; however, I did hear about it on my Lazy Jack sail. Bottom line: Both provide a lovely typical sailing experience. I would... More

We took the 5:30 cruise with Lazy Jack's (sailed by Captain Joe - kind of confusing). Could not be happier with experience. Did not see a bunch of marine life, etc. but this was not what this is what this sailboat ride is about and he tells you that upfront. It was very authentic. Beautiful sailboat. I had never been... We had a wonderful 2hr sail on the Lazy Jack today! Joe, the captain, and Nate, the mate, were great hosts, answering all our questions when we had them. We were glad that there wasn't a running commentary; it left us free to enjoy the sail on our own terms. The boat wasn't crowded in September, but even at capacity... More

My husband wanted me to experience being out on a sail boat. This was a nice plus for our trip. It was later in the day, and cooler, so it was not as crowded as the previous group was. Was glad they suggested a jacket and comfortable warm shoes. It was well worth the $35 each. The people were nice.... More

After a late-summer Saturday of hiking and shopping in Boothbay we were hanging out at Public Landing contemplating dinner for our three families...six adults and six kids ages 10 to 17. I struck up a chat with Mike at the charter booth for Lazy Jack and I quickly decided that we should invest our dinner funds in a 2-hour schooner... More

Our visit to Boothbay, Maine would not have been complete without a trip out in the bay by schooner. We selected the "Lazy Jack" as she only carries 14 people and we wanted the feel of a personal sail, rather than a commercial one. Our choice proved to be a good decision. The sailing vessel herself was very well maintained... More

Saw seals, porpoise, fat little puffin like birds (gillimuks), osprey on their nests, with chicks, a working lobster boat crew pulling and checking their pots, other tall ships with full sails-under a blue sky with a nice small group. Captain O'Connor is very interesting to listen to and knows so much about the area. His first mate, Jennifer (?) is... More

Both family friendly and a real sail! Couldn't ask for a better more peaceful sail through Boothbay. We really enjoy the quiet, beautiful view and an authentic sailing experience with our family! And Joe tells a good joke!

We were in boothbay harbor for a few days and took a ride on lazy jacks schooner. Captain joe was personable and easy going. The boat was beautiful and just a great way to see boothbay from a different perspective. Just a lot of fun. I would recommend hanging out on lazy jacks!
