What appeared to be nothing remarkable turned into an informative fun and nice slow ride on an old rail line through so nice Maine woods. You have a choice of riding in an enclosed passenger car or in an open-air converted freight car...that's the one to choose. The tracks are bumpy and you can stand in the car and watch... More

Another way to explore the Belfast area. Considering that the whole organization is done by volunteers who are passionnate about trains, it is a fun and instructive activity.

Personnel (Larry, Rusty, engineer Thor) very accommodating and the trip was fun. Open car especially enjoyable. Station grounds well kept. Serious railfans will want to drive up to Brooks and Unity to see depots and equipment stored at those locations. The rail-cycles look like fun too! A must-do for anyone passing through the area. The Downeast Scenic RR in Ellsworth... More

It was just about the experience. The trip lasted about an hour we didn't see much (it would be really cool if they staged some things out in the woods...animals, robbers, cowboys, etc. This would give much more appeal to the experience. It was $14.00 per person to ride. We did it and can say we did it but that... More

It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your ride. One experience we provide to our customers is the experience of riding an old train. We offer pizza trains and chocolate trains for those who do not desire just the experience of riding an old train. In 2015 we will be introducing additional special trains that will have on board... The old steam train has a special feeling of years gone by and both young and not so young can experience so e of the beauty of Waldo County by rail. The people who run this excursion are so enthusiastic and they spread their knowledge and experience to all. Simply a lovely way to spend several hours.

This small railroad is run by volunteers and donations, but is very well organized. It is an awesome way to see some great scenery.

Original 1950 ish engine and passenger cars. You could ride inside or out or do both. One hour through the woods. The scenery is OK, but not outstanding.

We first experienced the Railway on a weekend ride during peak foliage. The rails go through beautiful countryside, over bridges above water and through the woods. You can sit inside or outside; we sat outside. We took our grandson and totally enjoyed ourselves. A couple of months ago we rode the train, instead of driving, to the Common Ground Fair... More

Very friendly crew and the ride is extremely scenic. A great little train ride. They are very knowledgeable about the history of the area. if you like railroads, most of their equipment is stored in another area of the railroad line. The staff can direct you to there.

This is a pleasant hour-long ride from Belfast to Waldo. Scenic views of both the coast and (mostly) the interior of the area are the lure, as well as pleasant seating on an outdoor bench or an indoor seat. The train is staffed by a volunteer. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase, and there is a bathroom on board.
