This is neat if you haven't yet seen a lighthouse in New England, but it is really small is is not all that exciting.

Okay looking lighthouse, but very hard to find parking. Many cars pulling into the lot with very few spaces. You can find better looking lighthouse along the coast of Maine.

We cannot understand why the reviews are so good for this lighthouse. We were distinctly under-whelmed by this small example of Maine lighthouses. It's a long drive if you going here specifically for this, lucklily we only stopped on our way past. Not recommended.

We were staying in Southwest Harbor so the lighthouse was not far from us. We went early in the morning (9ish) and got there before the crowds. When looking at the lighthouse from the parking lot, look to your left and you will see a trail that leads you to a flight of steps that offers you a great view... More

So far maybe I am the only member who writes a negative review about Bass Harbor head light. But this review is based on my family trip with young kids in the afternoon in late August Personally, I was so disappointed at this attraction. Before I left Acadia national park, I made my decision to visit Bass Harbor head lighthouse... More

We were directed to this lighthouse by our waiter in Bar Harbor. The light is red and is a cheerful sign along the coast.

Bass Harbor Head is worth a visit when in the Acadia NP area. Views of the light are good from the paved ramp, but better from the trails, which do require a little effort. Be mindful of the tides if you plan to climb out on the rocks for an extended stay.

We made a point to go and see this lighthouse and we were glad we did. We took both paths around it so we could really get a feel for the place. The paved path was much easier to do than the short trail through the woods to the rocky shore, so there is an option depending on your abilities... More

We walked down the ramp from the parking lot and were quite satisfied with our views of this whitewashed iconic lighthouse with a red light. However if you are younger than us octogenarians and can navigate steep steps and a clamber across the rocks I understand you get a view from the other side.
