Interesting spot to visit. You can drive right to the lighthouse area with plenty of parking. Also reachable as a short walk from Bass Harbor campground.

You can't go into the lighthouse because it is still occupied. What you can do is find the trail from the parking lot! What a great hike through the woods and along the rocky shore and cliffs. There are numerous spots where you can hike down the rocks and get close to or right next to the ocean. It goes... More

Rarely the lighthouse is open to allow visitors to see the lamp and lens and view out to sea;its magical.Sailing by is second best especially at dusk; third best is from the rocky coast accessible via stairway- enjoy.

The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is located in Acadia National Park on the southwestern side of Mount Desert Island in Maine. You will find many stunning facts and photos on the web, and it is marked as one of the point of interest on Acadia national park trail map . The reason I am writing this review is for any... More

I've seen this place in all seasons. I love it every time. Get there at least 30 minutes prior of the rise or set of the sun. Climb around the rocks for the best pictures. It gets really crowded during season so try off season, it's just as nice. There is quite a set of stairs going down to the... More

This is a great lighthouse to take in during the early morning light. The walk through the woods brings you back to nature and the shoreline around this light is amazing. I am thankful it was a nice calm day while i was there, but I imagine these shores have seen their fair share of storms.

Probably one of the most photographed places on Mt Desert, but worth the trip. The path to the left takes you down a steep slope - if you are a little brave to can get a great spot out on the rocks to admire the sunset.

This is one of the most popular sites to visit in this area. It is a quaint small lighthouse with a long history. If you take the Island Cruises trip you can get good picture of it from the water. You take the path to the left and walk down to the lighthouse or take a path to the right... More

The lighthouse, rocks and water create a pretty scene any time. But this spot is best known as one of the top places to watch the sun set in Acadia, and with good reason. The best spot requires a walk down some steep steps and across some potentially slippery rocks, so you do need to watch your step. And you... More

The scene was more spectacular then captured in any picture. We camped just down the street from the lighthouse at Bass Harbor Camp Ground and struck up a personal relationship with the keeper. Our Boy Scout Troop gained views of the lighthouse few are able to see
