I love coming here and just sitting and looking out over the ocean and listening to the wave crashing on the rocks. Wear good shoes--NOT FLIP FLOPS!!! Lots of stairs but worth the climb. As the sun sets the rocks are a lovely pink color and makes for a great picture.

Get here before sundown. Bass Harbor Head Light is an operational lighthouse jutting out of the Maine coastline. The area is beautiful and full of old growth pines and sharp rocks cutting into the Atlantic. Very scenic place. Easy to walk around if you can manage stairs.

This is one of my favorite lighthouses in beautiful coastal Maine. Located in Bass Harbor and part of Acadia National Park. No charge to go here. There's a pretty good size parking lot. Over to the right is a very short path around the house and down to the light/ and bell. You can actually touch the lighthouse here. (my... More

I live close by and I love coming here all the time. It's definitely one of my favorite places. The view is spectacular and the lighthouse is so beautiful in all types of weather. I love taking the path down to the rocks and looking out at the islands and the lighthouse. If your visiting Bass Harbor make sure to... More

You can hike down to the lighthouse from the parking area but you cannot go inside. There is also a small trail to the left of the parking lot that will take you down to the water. From there you can get a good picture of the lighthouse.

Love lighthouses and this was cool to see. We walked around both sides of it to take our pics.If you have any mobility issues, it's best to stay to the path on the right side.

Beautiful and breath taking view of the light house and Penobscot Bay. It was cold with a fresh snowfall and was simply beautiful!

I visited the light house on a windy, cloudy and rainy day that did not make the experience anyhow less, in fact make it exceptionally very nice to see that this light house with its placement, is standing there facing the wind, the big Atlantic waves so calmly and intact for hundred years. it is just fascinating and give you... Even though you can only view a part of it from the walk, it was still nice. Steep steps and rocky steps once you are down there but if you use caution, it's a nice place. Glad we were able to see it.

got up super early and was at the light house at 615am for sunrise. The path down is steep and had a lot of stairs (wood and stone). The path can be a little dangerous so you need to pay attention. Sunlight peaking up and then on light house was awesome. This was a true highlight of the trip. Would... More
