We made a point to go and see this lighthouse and we were glad we did. We took both paths around it so we could really get a feel for the place. The paved path was much easier to do than the short trail through the woods to the rocky shore, so there is an option depending on your abilities... More

We walked down the ramp from the parking lot and were quite satisfied with our views of this whitewashed iconic lighthouse with a red light. However if you are younger than us octogenarians and can navigate steep steps and a clamber across the rocks I understand you get a view from the other side.

I am really confused reading the other reviews of this light house talking about how it is "impossible to get to" or a "Treacherous climb" down and over the rocks. And about the "Long drive". 1. There are 2 paths you can take. One leads you directly to the Lighthouse, the other leads you down to the water where you... More

We were out exploring the area and knew we wanted to see this lighthouse. At first we were disappointed that we couldn't capture the lighthouse as in the iconic photos we've seen over the years. However, after getting back to the parking lot we saw the trail that takes off to the right of the bathrooms. You can wander the... More

We stayed in Bass Harbor and didn't realize you need a park pass to park at most trailheads, etc. So, hard lesson learned early - get pass before thinking about hiking, sightseeing. Although, I must say I only saw one park ranger the whole week - I think they are understaffed. Picturesque Lighthouse that you can get up pretty close... More

This is the most beautiful lighthouse in Maine. There is no fee and you can walk a little path and some steps down to the rocks to take beautiful pictures of the lighthouse.

We went to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse after buying a print if it at a local art show. The lighthouse is a bit on the squat side and is all on the land. (Not on a jutting out piece of land.) It's really quite neat looking. You can go down to the lighthouse on both sides. We went down the... More

Must see, great place to stop and take in the view. Ample parking. Little bit of a steep hill that you have to go down and back up.

This is a fabulous lighthouse to visit. You can take an easy and short paved path down to view the lighthouse or opt to take a trail that leads down a steep multi-level staircase that brings you onto the spectacular rocky coast line where you can take extraordinary photos of the lighthouse from a different perspective. Climbing around on the... More

We went here with our family. We took the short hike down to the rocks to get better photos, and it was a great place to explore. Our kids (7 and up) were able to enjoy walking all along the rocks.
