Our French-American family, including two teenage daughters, loved this Creole plantation. Camille, our animated guide, was passionate about describing the difference between a matriarchal French-Creole plantation and patriarchal Anglo-American one, such as Oak Alley Plantation nearby. The tour included living quarters of emancipated slaves and their authentic furnishings. The tour moved along quickly with no wasted time or waiting. We... More

We were really looking forward to this and it was a great experience, the atmosphere was great, some of the tour was outside wich was pretty warm, but for us it gave the tour more of the feel of yesteryear, the tourguide, her name was Alex, really told the story well, was entertaining and funny, there was more than enough... We booked our tour through Cajun Pride Swamp tour as a package deal and it was well worth it. We were picked up at our hotel and transported first to the swamp and then to the plantation. We were promptly picked up and transported back to the hotel. 10:45 to 6:PM. Our guide, Ethan, was very well spoken and delivered... More

Laura was the first of two plantations we visited on a day trip out from New Orleans. Unlike the luxuriant Oak Alley plantation, the Laura Plantation offers a more modest Creole cane-growers house. This plantation is significant in that the original slave quarters are still there. The guide gave an in in depth talk about the Creole heritage and the... More

We visited the plantation for the first tour at 10am in July. It was not too hot. It has a nice gift shop. The staff was extremely friendly on the phone and in person. The tour guide was pleasant and informative. There was a local restaurant right down the road that had authentic Cajun food. The staff at the plantation... More

We are a family with 6 kids aged 4-19 years. We really enjoyed this tour very much. The tour guide was very interesting and didn't just throw out historical facts. He explained the Creole heritage and history of the family really well using stories of the family. Our only issue was the younger two kids in our family were a... More

Beautiful house and grounds. Tour leaves out the family feud and the future financial failure that seemed to end a long history. The records and written memoir add immense continuity and a personal look into the lives of Creole Planters.

If you feel Oak Alley is a bit "posh" and "commercial", Laura is the thing for you. Great house, great restoration job, great hosts. A welcome change to classic plantation tours.

My wife and I toured several plantation homes in the area, and the Laura had by far the most interesting family stories. Our tour guide was great.
