The Laura plantation was a very interesting site, and I definitely recommend it-especially if you are interested in history! I came to New Orleans for a research project and coming to Laura was very helpful. I forgot my guides name, but he was more than happy to answer questions and give our group time to take pictures. He was also... More

I've done the Laura Plantation tour twice and both times I've been in awe over the history and stories that come with this place. I would recommend it for the history buff or for the casual traveler to New Orleans who is tired of bead-throwing on Bourbon street and want a real taste of old-timey New Orleans. Awesome place! I researched the different plantations before our trip, because I wanted to make sure to see the most amazing ones during our limited time in Louisiana. I read the reviews for Laura, and based on those, decided that Laura was the first on my list. That wasn't a bad decision, because the tour itself was vastly superior to the one... More

We did 2 plantation tours arranged by Cajun Encounters and this was the best (hands down!) Jennifer (our guide) was knowledgeable about the packaged tour but it was obvious that she had personally dug deeper into the stories of Laura and the slaves that lived there. Questions from the group were deeper than the usual stuff and she was able... More

I thought the tour of Laura was very good, for the most part. The tour guide, Stephen, is obviously interested in the details himself, and that showed. There wasn't an awful lot of information about the slaves and their lives, however, But I suppose the tour is based on Laura's memoirs, which are "of their time": they just weren't that... More

If you only see one plantation while visiting New Orleans be sure to see Laura Plantation. On our first trip to New Orleans in the late 90's, we rented a car one day and took a drive along River Rd. At that time there was not much advertising for Laura, but we had read about it in a guide book.... More

We used Cajun Encounters and highly recommend them. We went to the Laura Plantation and it was fabulous. The history their is totally incredible. The guides know so much about the history of this plantation. This was one of the older and larger plantations. The tour lasts about 1-2 hours and will take about 90 minutes to get there from... I have heard great things about the Laura plantation and sadly i was very disapointed. Our tour guide had absolutely no intrest in taking us out, you could tell when he rang the bell before the tour. The tour was horrible, no time line, no story, just random stories about the family that did not tie into each other. The... More

I read about Laura prior to going to New Orleans. I had recalled the movie that Disney has since banned in the US, "Song of the South." I read somewhere that the tales of Braer Rabbit, told by the Uncle Remus character in this movie, originally came to this country from the slaves on plantations. Laura was mentioned amongst them....
