Not open at this time. It has been closed for awhile if you are staying at th El Dorado or SamsTown and you need to get your walk in, very nice walk along the Red River behind the Barnwell towards the south.

I love plants, what can I say? I have never been disappointed with any garden except a dead one. It has it's own unique beauty. Been going there since 1975.

The gardens are great around Easter to see the flowers. There is a rock garden, sculptures and water feature worth a short walk if its not too hot. The art inside is eclectic from the Barnwell's collection. There are lots of early American paintings, Audubon elephant book of birds, dolls, guns, etc etc. Be careful not to upset the guards... Unless they have improved in the last few weeks I would skip this venue. It was less then maintained in the garden area. I don't know what I was expecting but it was more then we got. Yes, it's free, but there was nothing to see, it was dirty in the garden area and very hot as well, the gardens... More

We were walking around Shreveport, especially along the river, and we were ready to go indoors to warm up (this is in January). We love to visit gardens and botanical centers in other cities, so I have to say this one is much smaller than you would think. I know everyone will take their own pace to see a place... More

Not only are the grounds gorgeous, the museum always has fabulous art to view. You have to go in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom.

The Barnwell Garden and Art Center, Shreveport, Louisiana. Located on the banks of the Red River this is a combination of indoor art galleries, a conservatory, outdoor plaza and patios with a range of cascades and fountains. Visited in late January – between exhibitions and not the best time for the gardens, but should be a great place to visit... More
