We are huge history buffs and decided to go to Nachitoches for the day. We learned so much at the Fort that related to my Family history. My 10th great grandfather, Noel Soileau, was a shopkeeper in the Fort in Natchez back in the 1720's, which was the same timeframe as this fort. They really were able to bring my... More

We were so glad we went to the Fort St. Jean Baptiste, it really gave us a perspective of what life was like in the early settlements. The guides went above and beyond to answer questions and tell us interesting details of the history of the area, plus the fort is a walk through glimpse into the past. We would... More

Truly enjoyed visiting the fort. The tour guides are well informed and interacted with us. All throughout the fort we learned about life on the frontier. Very interesting for entire family. The family ranged in age from 5-65. Enjoyed our visit! We will go back!

Drove from Texas to see the area including this fort. Walked to the door, nothing was posted stating that it was closed, people were inside, and we pulled the door and it was locked. It stated open at 9:00 and it was 9:45 am. Walked down the front porch and saw another person inside who saw us. They kept working... More

Very nice staff, fun to do for an hour, was a replica and thought it was ok. Didn't take very long to go through the site.

Having grown up in this area, I actually learned the my family name has ties to the first settlers to the area in the early 1700's. You can get a great hisory of the settlement in the Visitors Center and the see an actual full size replica of the fort afterwards. Whether you are from Louisiana or just passing through,... More

My wife and I stopped here and learned a great deal in a short period of time about the French fort on the Cane river and the interactions with the Spanish, the natives, and the Americans.. The replica fort is an amazing copy of the original... Don't forget to watch the short movie in the visitor center.

To see how people lived two hundred years ago is well worth the $4.00 we both paid to see the grounds and fort. We went on a Wednesday and had the place all to ourselfs. Bring your kids here and let them run around in the fort and have fun.
