My husband and I have taken airboat tours in the Florida Everglades, but this was so different. Mr. Coerte (age 83) and his son, Kim, were our guides. Their love for this swamp is evident. We were on a small boat that Kim was able to maneuver into very remote areas. A few times he cut the engine and we... More

I took this tour with my eleven year old grandson and our experience was one of the most memorable in years. Kim Voorhies shared the wealth of his knowledge of the Atchafalaya and his passion for the area was infectious. This is no packaged ride in the swamp on a party boat with a public address system to see hand... More

Such an awesome experience! After many years of living about 35 minutes away we decided to go on this swamp tour. The smaller boats used on this tour allowed us to get deep in the woods. Mr. Voorhies and his son Kim were very knowledgeable about the basin and they kept us safe at all times. The peacefulness and beauty... More

Drove down from working in Houston just to do this swamp tour - and it was well worth it. Three generations of guides in three small but stable boats: Kim is a real ambassador for the area - knowledgable and thought-provoking. Coerte, 83 years old but seeming 20 years younger, added his wisdom to the mix: it made for a... More

Absolutely the best swamp tour I've ever been on. Coerte was an extremely knowledgeable host, and very committed to sharing his love of this superb wetland area. The excursion was not as fast-paced as an airboat version, which allowed us to actually feel part of the nature around us. I have been on many 'tours' in various locales, but considered... More

I loved this swamp tour! It was personal, and the guides try and do everything they can to give you the best experience! Call and ask them what time of year is best to come. You will obtain the most amazing photo opportunities. Think about what you want most, best time of day for lighting for your pictures, such as... More

If you've the time to travel to Cajun Country (approximately 2-3 hours southwest of New Orleans), make the trip. My wife and I have travelled the world and have immersed ourselves in countless backcountry settings and venues however, we have never experienced something like this. Three generations of knowledgable naturalists operate a service that teaches us to better understand the... More

We took a tour of the Atchafalaya with the Atchafalaya Experience last year and liked it enough that we went on a dawn tour of a major rookery with them this year. It was great! We met them at the unholy time of 5 am to drive to the distant rookery for dawn. (It was great in spite of the... More
