For Lafayette, LA this is quite a landmark. Sitting beside this famous cathedral a 500 year old oak tree with massive arms outstretched bathes you with magnificent shade during a hot summer tour. I remember the old cathedral as I spent my formative years at Mount Carmel Elementary School. Every Friday we would walk to the cathedral for mass. It's... More

As I love seeing church architecture all over the world, I am blessed living in the Diocese of Lafayette! Seeking out architecturally significance in European cities always brings me to the churches!! Well, on Rue Cathedral in Lafayette, you will find our treasure in this architecturally significant church! And, outside the walls is the ancient St. Jean Oak, on the... More

This Catholic church is beautiful with many stained glass windows and a feeling of peace and awe surround you. Like many places of faith here also there is a sense of something more than ones self. The church building is nice but I will confess the over 500 year old oak tree near the front of the church is a... More

The grounds and the cathedral were beautiful. We enjoyed seeing them along with the old cemetery in the back of the cathedral. Beautiful architecture.

While passing through on business I discovered this majestic gem and immediately grabbed a parking spot. The grounds are lovely and filled with snapdragons in full bloom. The interior was resplendent with sun pouring through the stained glass windows illustrating beautiful interpretations of biblical stories. Well worth the time to stop in and take a moment to reflect or to... More

St. John's Cathedral holds a significant place in the hearts of all Acadian Catholics. Its beautiful architecture along with its stained glass windows touches the hearts of all who look upon it for the first time. The grounds surrounding the building is also beautiful especially when one views the magnificent live oak tree to the right of the entrance. In... More
