Spent and afternoon at this lovely little museum in June. Lots of exhibits and great info about the history of Houma and the impact of living on or near the water/swamp. I would highly recommend a stop here if you are visiting Houma.

The museum is small, but has an interesting collection of photographs and artifacts. We really enjoyed hearing the narrations by real watermen and women. The person working the reception desk was warm and friendly, and shared some interesting local history with us. Not all artifacts were marked, or they didn't have detailed descriptions, leaving us to wonder what they were.... More

Great field trip for students for history in a fun way. This museum would also be of interest to any first timers seeking to learn more about this areas. Young ones will love the gator. Bayou is right outside and if weather is nice have a picnic outside. Then cross the foot bridge to see the beautiful Native American statue... More

Most of the attractions are interactive and they give a good representation of the importance and history of Terrebonne Parish. Not surprisingly most of... More

Great education on that precious piece of our America. Makes you realize how important our marshlands and habitat is. If it disappears, then where will humanity be?

found this by chance with tripadvisor. wasn't really planned in our tight travel-time frame. but it was really worth the time. it gives the whole family an impression about the cajun culture , the re-settling and the bayou country (how does a bayou look underneath the water). good information for the rest of our trip.

I haven't been in a few years, I thought the admission price was a little expensive when we visited, but you will learn a great deal about the culture, wetlands and our area.
