I am submitting this second review, to highlight the newly opened Carriage House Restaurant at Houmas House Plantation. First, the building is exquisite (ask about the history - fascinating!); second, and most importantly, the Carriage House has a young, talented chef (Joseph Dicapo) who is inventive, excited about his menu, and who delivers! We had no particular expectations on our... More

We live in Baton Rouge and go there every so often. It's my favorite place to go to have a good meal and enjoy the beautiful grounds. Judy Davis does a fabulous tour and we always hope to get her when we have out-of-town guests we take there. I've been on many mansion tours over the years and always go... More

Oh my goodness, I have never seen prettier gardens, landscaping and architecture! If you've been to NOLA and missed this you have missed a beautiful plantation. The tour of the grounds alone is so worth the stop. It's a bit if a drive from the city but again very worth it. The tour guides are in period dress which is... More

It's a beautiful estate. There's no doubt. Gorgeous foliage, well manicured lawns...everything you'd expect from a Southern estate. But if you're looking for a historical plantation tour, look elsewhere. I'd been waiting all my life to see an authentic plantation home. My hotel concierge highly recommended Houmas House. I wish I would have followed my gut and gone elsewhere. Our... More

My lady and myself went on the Houma mansion tour. Entered thru the gift shop which had something for everyone. This was first mansion we had visited that we were able to touch just about everything. Took lots of picks of the beautiful landscape and mansion. Ate brunch there. We both had a salad which was good but the breads... More

We only visited the Houmas House in Louisiana, so we cannot compare how much better or worse HH is compared to other plantations. The garden is huge and there are so many beautiful and vibrant flowers. It is definitely the highlight of our visit and the only reason we gave 2 out 5 instead of 1. Now for the lowlights... More

This is one of the plantations that has a little of everything. Ponds, mansions, gardens, bridges, restaurant, and gift shop. I am in love with dragonflies and they are every where - either real, paintings, and art!!! One of the best must see places in Louisiana to visit, make it a day trip visit!!

My cousin and I made last minute reservations for a Friday afternoon tour. When we arrived we discovered that it was only going to be us- Lucky. It made the experience feel extra special. We had the most charming tour guide, I think her name was Diane (I missed her introduction whilst replacing my camera battery). She was incredibly friendly... More

My wife and I had a wonderful time. Far and away the best of the plantation homes we visited while in Louisiana. Deb our guide was very funny, kept us laughing the whole tour. Her knowledge of the history of the house was second to none. The house itself, along with the gardens were amazing, one can just believe they... More
