Houmas House Plantation and Gardens is a little different from others along the River Road. The tour guides dress in period costumes, which is a step above most other venues. Their depth of knowledge about the house itself seems limitless, again a step above most others. Our guide, John Hebert, actually seemed to have done research on his own outside... More

I was visiting friends in New Orleans and asked them to take me to the best plantation - well, Houmas House fit the bill. The grounds are superb as is the restoration - our guide, Sandy Ivey Reed was knowledgeable and fun! Sandy obviously loves her job and the house. We had dinner at Latil's Landing - another huge plus... More

We only had time to tour one plantation while in Louisiana and were delighted with our choice. The tour has everything: 1. A great house - 2. Beautiful furniture & art - 3. An amazing tour guide - 4. Beautiful gardens - 5. Great gift shop. We have toured a number of other plantations in other parts of the country,... More

My husband and I loved our tour and dinner at Houma House. The owner has painstakingly restored and furnished the property in the period it was built. The grand old home was filled with exquisite antiques and art that we were able to enjoy in an atmosphere of warm hospitality. The owner lives in Houmas House which gave us the... More

Houmas House Plantation is known for its restaurant, but the house and gardens are well worth your time by themselves. The house is well maintained and, unlike most venues, visitors are invited to touch many of the items. Docents are dressed in period clothing, but don't put on airs. They are extremely knowledgeable and love to share. The gardens are... More

The property is gorgeous. You feel like you're stepping back 100 years while there. The gardens are stunning, with amazing detail to all of the plants & flowers. The old trees on the property were especially nice...they hang over much of the lawn like a shady canopy. The house is in great shape, and the staff is lighthearted and fun... More

What a great tour. Susan was our guide. She was knowledgeable and interesting. The restaurant had great food, and our waitress, Lauren, was exceptional. Definitely worth putting on your list of things to see.

We found this gem as we were traveling to New Orleans and were so glad we took the time to stop in. Our tour guide was informative and personable making our experience even better. Not only is the home beautiful but the gardens are gorgeous as well. Perfectly maintained and photo ops galore!

Breathtaking Gardens and Home. A wonderful look at life on a plantation in the 19th and early 20th century. Leave yourself enough time to spend the day there. There is so much to see and amazing photo opportunities. The restaurant is not to be missed either!

If you can only do 1 plantation in Louisiana, it should be Houmas House. All of the plantations are amazing, and each really does have it's own story to tell. What makes Houmas House unique is that it is actually still someone's home, not a museum. So the rooms aren't roped off and inaccessible. No one yells if you touch... More
