This is a hard place to review, but here goes: This is not a historical site, but it is pretty. You won't learn about how plantations operated and how the people at a plantation were treated. I didn't hear or see the word "slave" the entire time I was there, but I didn't go on the tour of the house.... More

My sweetie and I visited the plantation last wed apr 22nd. Somewhat to our dismay, we ran abreast of “bus tours” (2 in number). Groups were large and noisy. We were hoping for a tad more intimate and quieter experience. HOWEVVER if ever was a time to congratulate your staff, this is it. We found out at the bar that... More

This was my first stay at the Inn at Houmas House. Even with heavy rains, the place was amazing. The "cabins" are tucked away under the oak trees away from the main house. It was delightful. The products they use are exceptional and just a little extra for your stay. When I pulled a bath robe from the closet, just... More

Best plantation tour we had! The home is gorgeous land the gardens are so beautiful there are not words to describe them. We toured three plantations and Houmas House is the best by far. Our tour guide was Sandy and she was wonderful. She made history come alive. Very personable and she really pulled you in to the stories she... More

This is an amazing well kept plantation house and the gardens are absolutely fantastic. Make sure you book lots of time to visit this location and if you can stay as long as possible. We popped in for a refreshing mint julep at the Turtle Bar and the bartender picked fresh mint from the garden for our drinks. How much... More

First stop is the lovely large gift shop where you purchase your tour tickets. Everything is so beautiful and well maintained. The walk to the mansion is a delight. Our tour guide was the best! She made you feel like what it may of felt like to live during this time. Her knowledge and southern charm was delightful. The details... More

This was part of our river boat trip and it was one of the best homes we visited. The guide was a curator of the home so had lots of stories. Have to come back and see the rest.

I've been to several plantation homes on the Mississippi river and have also been on numerous tours, but the Houmas House Plantation is without a doubt the best I've ever seen. For one thing the tour guides are very knowledgeable, not only about their property but also about the Mississippi river, the civil war, slavery and plantations homes in general.... More

This was the second plantation we toured in the area during the same day, by far the better of the two. The garden was incredible, with rows of oaks each over hundreds of years old; with the oldest being about 600 years old. The mansion was an awesome display of the era and had furniture displayed that fit the house... More
