The plantation is breathtaking from the street view and even more so once on the property. I was glad to see that there is a effort in place to provide the story behind the slaves on the plantation (The other side of the story) and look forward to going back and seeing that. The grounds were beautiful with the spanish... More

I loved this plantation. The gardens are beautiful, make sure you allow yourself time to really stroll the grounds. We were rushing to catch the tour and didn't get to :( The tour guide was excellent (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) she was so informative and friendly. Will comeback to bring others!

Today some friends and I toured Houmas House Plantation and Gardens. We live less than an hour away from the attraction. I've visited Oak Alley twice in the last six months with out-of-state friends. Now we will need to take them to Houmas House! I was expecting that this plantation would be sort of a 'runner-up' to Oak Alley. Quite... More

I rarely get out of my beloved city of New Orleans (why would you, it's amazing!) but today I took a day trip to Houmas House plantation. I'm SO glad I did. First of all, the gardens are jaw-droppingly gorgeous. You really could spend all day wandering through the ancient oaks, checking out the graceful statues, fountains, lilies, magnolias, etc.... This plantation was the only one open late, so we drove about 55 minutes from our NOLA hotel -- and it was definitely worth the drive! The gardens were just beautiful, the moss-covered oak trees grand and the house looked just as I would have envisioned it over hundred years ago. We took the 6:00pm tour and actually were the... We got a Groupon for dinner and invited friends to join us. We were in for quite a treat from friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, excellent food, and a walk through the magnificent gardens. Can't wait to go back in a different season to enjoy it all over again.

This house is one of the best plantations I have visited in the Louisiana state. It is well preserved and our guide was quite funny and made good "back in time" comments and explained, in good detail, the challenges of the life in a plantation... A well crafted experience

I lost myself in the gardens and history of Houmas House. The gardens a beautiful and extensive. The large live oaks are breathtaking. The house is a gem all its own, with great guides and a lot of information. The Burnside cafe on grounds has amazing food. I would always suggest the chocolate cheese cake for dessert, it is to...
