We only had a short time to visit one plantation home before we went back to Pensacola. The indecision of choosing one, the right one, a good one was hard. But, I am so glad that we came here. It is a beautiful home with beautiful grounds. The woman that gave the tour was funny, interesting and informative about life... More

My husband and I planned a visit to New Orleans, which we do about every two years, and this year, we wanted to stay at one of the plantations for one night before settling into our hotel in the French Quarter. My research on the internet led me to Houmas House. Our visit exceeded my expectations! The staff is warm... More

The grounds and home were excellent! The staff was very nice and our tour guide (Elizabeth) was very knowledgeable and super friendly! She led us through the house and was very fun to chat with about the grounds and the history. The house was great, and so were the artifacts inside! We really had a good time taking the tour.... This place is spectacular. If you're in to visiting old homes and gardens -can't be missed. Restaurant good also. Short drive from Baton Rouge. Not too far from New Orleans

Houmas House is a real jewel. There has been a lot of money spent on preservation and landscaping. It was the major sugar cane plantation in the 1800s and with its current renovation it is a must see on your Louisiana plantation tour. The gardens are meticulously maintained and can be visited free of charge, but you will probably want... More

I am so glad you enjoyed your visit. Contrary to what you stated, there is a charge of $15 per person to tour our 36 acres of gardens. More

The care and appreciation for this property is evident the moment you park. The grounds are well maintained and even though we visited off season, I could envision the flowers in bloom...the gardner has his hands full! The oak trees are a vision with some 400-600 years old and draping to the ground. The original house has been preserved and... More

During a recent visit to Baton Rouge, I had the opportunity to visit Houmas House Plantation and Gardens. This is a wonderful place, full of history and it has beautiful grounds. Our tour guide, Shayla Morris, provided an informative tour. Shayla was a very knowledgable guide. it was very interesting to watch Shayla demonstrate how many of the antiques were... More

If you love eye candy of outdoor art and sculptures mixed with history you will love this place! We weren't planing on touring the grounds and house but we were glad we did. Our guide Michael was fun and knowledgeable and our lunch was one of the best during our visit to New Orleans....this experience was definately a highlight of... More

We were very disappointed in this property. House very dirty and unkempt. Tour guide was friendly and pleasant. The grounds and house decorations more reflect the current owners eclectic taste than period correct. No exhibits or acknowledgements addressing the slaves labored here.

I've been here twice this year and plan on returning within the next few weeks. The restaurants serve delicious food and the gardens are beautiful year round! This is one of my favorite Louisiana plantations!
