I have been to plantations before, this is one of the better ones. The gardens are impressive as are the 300 year old live oaks. What really made this a 5* tour was our guide, John Herbert. He had significantly more knowledge than any other guide I have encountered and tells a really good story. There is a lot of... More

Interesting tour of plantation up river from NOLA. We took a tour bust that picked us up on Canal Street at the Marriott. Good and fine except we were to see a 20 minute video on the ride but didn't. We hit the noon tour as soon as we got there. Beautiful grounds and home. Lunch at the restaurant to... More

We viewed this plantation and totally enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was Patty and she added so much to this tour. With her southern drawl and period dress, she made you feel like you were back in time on this property. Her personality was light, fun, very informative and she added her fun humor. The grounds were beautiful and... More

We drove out the River Road toward Baton Rouge to this historic plantation. What beautiful grounds. The tour was given by a delightful docent dressed as a "Southern Lady", accent and all. She was thoroughly interesting and informative of the history of the house and the historic period. There is a restaurant there but we did not eat in it.... More

I've toured Houmas House and experienced both dining areas (a wedding day of moved restaurant upstairs) twice recently, each with different out-of-town visitors. This plantation is definitely worth visiting if you want to see the best in a short time. Tours were very interesting and start on the half hour, restaurants decently priced for lunch, mint juleps delicious- must try... More

Whenever I have friends come in from out of town, I take them to see Houmas House. If there is time to see only one of the plantations, this is the one to see. If you are lucky enough to get Judy as your tour guide, you will be treated to singing and piano playing, There are also choices for... More

Do not miss the opportunity to see this beautiful piece of American history. My husband calls it the Hearst Castle of the South. It is worth the drive, the time, and the money.

What a beautiful example to southern charm. The house and the grounds are just so lovely and so elegant. The house tour was very educational and fun . This is where part of the film Hush,Hush Sweet Charlotte was filmed. There is avery nice restaurant on the grounds- try the crawfish salad- it was Wonderful. There is a very interesting short... I wanted to love this place. I'd been following on Facebook for sometime and always thought it looked so charming. So, on a recent trip from Texas to Florida, we decided to go out of the way and visit Houmas House. We arrived and paid for the house tour. Our tour guide was pleasant and chatty. We quickly realized that... More

It was raining when we got to Houmas House. We went into the gift shop to purchase tickets and then watched a short film. By the time this was over, it was raining as only it can in south Louisiana. We got a ride in a covered cart over to the big house, where we waited on the porch for... More
