To shake off the heady revelry we experienced whilst attending the outrageously fabulous Five-day Festival International de Louisiane, we took a tour around Lake Martin for a looksie at the frenzied cacophony of herons, egrets and spoonbills before returning to hear the Jam at the Grant Street Dance hall. The swamp tour is excellent, peaceful in its own noisy way... More

It is great to know that this beautiful lake and its surrounding swamp are protected and made available for the public to enjoy.

You can drive around lake Martin and see parts of the swamp and egret nesting sites. Take a swamp too as well. Well worth it

My husband and I drove to Lake Martin today. We drove around the levee until we found the Cypress Nature Center. We spoke with the volunteer who was very informative. She talked to us about the birds and other wildlife and gave us an brief history lesson. We enjoyed our short hike and booked a swamp tour. The swamp tour... More

We enjoy riding out to Lake Martin. Your drive is a gravel road along the lake. You might see migrating birds, turtles, alligators, snakes and even kayakers. The wooden walkway is just a few feet above the "swamp" area. We were lucky this last trip to see an alligator just below the walkway and one further away. We then walked... More

I've lived in Louisiana all my life but visiting this lake taught me many things I did not know about wildlife in Louisiana. The alligators are huge and not as shy as the ones I have seen before in the wild. We also got to see a large nesting area for our beautiful white egrets. The lake was full of... More

We visited also this little city and we enjoyed the nice old church, Evangeline's Oak and the Acadian Memorial.

We walked around different areas of the lake, and we're able to view the alligator, turtles, snakes, and egrets. There is a welcome center with bathrooms, and picnic tables.

It would have been easy to drive by Lake Martin had we not been told about it before our trip here. It's a bit off the beaten path, but that's where the best things are, right? We had done the Honey Island Swamp Tour years ago in Slidell, but this was so much different and better. There were just 6... More
