I've lived in Louisiana all my life but visiting this lake taught me many things I did not know about wildlife in Louisiana. The alligators are huge and not as shy as the ones I have seen before in the wild. We also got to see a large nesting area for our beautiful white egrets. The lake was full of... More

We visited also this little city and we enjoyed the nice old church, Evangeline's Oak and the Acadian Memorial.

We walked around different areas of the lake, and we're able to view the alligator, turtles, snakes, and egrets. There is a welcome center with bathrooms, and picnic tables.

It would have been easy to drive by Lake Martin had we not been told about it before our trip here. It's a bit off the beaten path, but that's where the best things are, right? We had done the Honey Island Swamp Tour years ago in Slidell, but this was so much different and better. There were just 6... More

This is amazing place. Its so peaceful. It's great for solo couples and family. I can't say one bad thing about this place. Anyone in the area that has the chance to go should definitely go and check it out.

Great place to see nature. It is not over-run with tourists and other people. They have boat tour operators, but you can often see roseate spoonbills and alligators from the road. Nice walking trail around lake

If you're ever in the area, be sure to stop in at Lake Martin. This beautiful wildlife preserve is home to many native animals, birds, and reptiles. We saw alligators in the water less than 10 feet from the bank and found alligator tracks in the mud on the trail. Be sure to go to the boardwalk at the South... More

Very beautiful lake. You usually see alligators as you drive by the lake. And the birds are breathtaking during the nesting season.

The Nature Conservancy has again saved a beautiful portion of the U.S.A. with its Cypress Island Preserve at Lake Martin Louisiana (near Breaux Bridge). Although the visitor center was not open, we enjoyed a walk on the dike trail, soaking up the beauty of the cypress trees and the dark and clear waters of the swamp, listening to the birds,... More

Lake Martin is one of the most favored settings for photographers filming birds and animals in their natural environs. It is close to Lafayette and well worth the time to visit. All self guided.
