A zoo in the woods

We came here in March after just moving to the area. We were so excited to have something close to us after having lived in a very remote area before. There was hardly any animals to see and the ones that were there were all inside having their cages cleaned. Maybe we just came on the wrong day but it... More

The grounds of the zoo are wonderful. Lots of mature trees and shade. Proud of the Baton Rouge-born Malaysian twin tiger cubs. Enjoyed the bird area, talking parrot and flamingoes. A little disappointed the otters no longer have a water slide where they can cavort and show off their tricks. Habitats are clean and well tended.

This is a nice zoo, although smaller than what I'm use to, still worth seeing. The food in the cafe's is good and reasonably priced, although the drinks are not. Enjoyed the peacocks roaming freely.

It's a nice but small zoo and would be best for younger children. Teens and older kids would probably not be too impressed compared to much larger zoo's. It's good for about a 2-3 hour outing and then we like to ride the train just before we leave. It is just north of Baton Rouge and will require about a... More

I wouldn't make a special trip to the BR Zoo if you are here on vacation. It's ok for a casual stroll with the kids on a nice day. The new Tiger Exhibit is very neat, but there is still much room for improvement.

It's a good zoo. Especially for small children. There is a new tiger exhibit that is really nice. There is also a reptile exhibit that houses Louisiana fish and reptiles. The little ones love to ride the train around the zoo property. There is a snack bar with food and drinks.

A bit off the beaten path to be considered "Baton Rouge", but then that's the point o' any adventure! Lots o' free parking and a great walk through the many distinct areas setup for different regions. Good selection o' animals - feathered, furry and otherwise - as well as some amusing invaders (squirrels have the run o' the place and... More

We have been on several different days, and several different times. Either the animals are missing or asleep, but usually missing. There have been so many empty exhibits for years. I really don't understand the revenue that keeps this zoo open. If you are looking for somewhere to take your smaller child(ren) under the age of 4, they'll probably enjoy... More

Stopped in Monday 04/20/15 to stretch legs. Average small city zoo - no big interactive displays or research plants. But if you want a good pleasant afternoon without being oversold and pushed through the gift shop, this serves.

I remember days of my childhood when Buckskin Bill and all his children viewers helped to collect pennies for Penny the Elephant and numerous trips there as a child, then a youth and it has been some decades, but my recently trip there brought back many childhood memories. Many improvements were made and the areas is quite beautiful and well... More
