Farmington Plantation was build in 1816 by the Speed family and is the subject of the 1820 John Rutherford watercolor. It was a working hemp plantation and was the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln's closest friend, Joshua Speed. The future president visited Farmington in 1841 and stayed to recover from depression. In 2002, the Memorial to the Enslaved African Americans... More

Farmington is a very nicely restored historic home. Visitor center video and talk was very informative. Well worth visiting this home. Docent gave a very good tour.

beautiful piece of history. Very interesting closets up very high...kitchen or what was used as a kitchen is in the basement where the fireplace was used to cook. Many artifacts originally in the house are still there.

This was well worth the drive during our vacation in Richmond, Indiana (about a 3-hour trip one way). We combined our visit to Farmington with a delicious meal at nearby Roots restaurant. I grew up in the south and remember segregation, but have never toured a plantation, nor had my husband. We were very interested in witnessing the remnants of... More

This is a well maintained and important historical site in the city limits of Louisville. Located near the Highlands, this former plantation was the home of the Speed family one of the city's prominent families. They owned slaves so this is important from a historical stand point. African American artist William Duffy created a memorial for the slaves who lived... More

I had my wedding at Farmington on June 23, 2012 and was very pleased. Diane was wonderful to work with, and we went with her suggestions for other vendors (Reliable Rentals and Kingsley Catering). We were very pleased with how the entire event was handled. Our guests were impressed with the beauty of the grounds, and we were relieved with... More

The house itself is okay, but unfortunately we got a guide who was nice but not very knowledgeable. He seemed to have a list of things he knew about, and if you asked him anything not on that list, he couldn't answer very well. There was nothing too impressive about the house if you've toured many others of the period--... More

Driving up to Farmington is sort of like a step back in time – because even though you are right by the interstate and a busy shopping area, you have to drive down a long road with trees arching over the whole road – like you would have expected the approach to the house to have looked like back when...
