We toured Waveland this past June and we really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and she did a great job of giving history of this old house and the surrounding building. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at Waveland. It was an easy distance from anywhere in Lexington and was a perfect morning activity before we headed for the airport. I enjoy most any historic home, but this one was especially nice as the young woman giving the tour, Sarah, was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about history... more

Waveland State Historic Site August 22, 2005. -Waveland gets its name from the wind blowing the wheat or grain that once grew tall there. The Waving wheat moving back and forth reminded them of the waves on the Ocean so they called it Waveland.
