Description: Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit...
Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 135 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Breeders' Cup Champion Gulch, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more. Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Tours are daily at 10:00, 1:00 & 3:00 with a reservation.

We arrived a few minutes late for the last tour of the day and they were nice enough to include us. We were able to view and pet a large number of beautiful horses anywhere from 7 years old to 30+ years old. We learned a great amount of history about horses and got to see several legends as well... Tour starts off in a little house turned gift shop. We arrived just before our tour time so we didn't look around a lot. We drove back to the barn/farm area from there and started our tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. She let all of us feed carrots to most the horses that we stopped to visit. It... More

Everyone enjoyed the tour and learning about the horse's past! Especially loved meeting Silver Charm and walking around such a beautiful farm. Suggest hats and cold water on a warm day.

My girls loved it! My husband enjoyed the history of the farm and the horses. Nice way to spend the day. Wonderful to see this non-profit in action. Lots of love there to go around to these retired champions.

If you like horses, Old Friends is worth a visit to be sure. Aside from the opportunity to interact with some former Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes winners, you will get to see some beautiful horses close up. The staff quite obviously enjoys what they do and have a great love for these animals. You never feel like... More

It was very good to get up close to some of the stars of horse racing's most prestigious races. We got to feed and pet some real stars. The staff were very helpful and the histories explained. It is so good that someone has taken the trouble to protect these horses after their racing careers are over. Thank you and... More

This is an amazing place to see some beautiful and well-cared for horses. They have some big name champions and some less well known. Michael does a fantastic tour and tells great stories. The farm is absolutely gorgeous. Its so nice to see these wonderful retirees have such a place to call home.

This is a must-see attraction. I'm not sure I've ever had such a unique experience. Old Friends is a non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center. They care for horses whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. They run guided tours, and the local tour companies also bring people by. I got to feed carrots to Derby winner Silver Charm -... More

Fun afternoon tour. All Volunteer, nonprofit - all really care about the horses. Loved our tour guide. It was nice to hear each horses story and they bring carrots you can feed them. Good amount of walking outside so may not be suitable for anyone that has a hard time getting around. I also don't recommend for unruly or young... More
