Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 135 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Breeders' Cup Champion Gulch, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more. Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Tours are daily at 10:00, 1:00 & 3:00 with a reservation.

What an incredible experience! We met some amazing former racehorses and some incredible people who are dedicating their lives to providing the forever home that these former athletes very much deserve. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you, Old Friends! I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in horses ... prepare to be inspired.

I have visited Old Friends for the last 5 years. Old Friends is in Georgetown, Kentucky home of Georgetown College. i had read about Old Friends in The Boston Globe. Michael Blowen, the founder of Old Friends, was a former scribe with the Globe. It is a great place to see former great runners in a relaxing atmosphere. Michael is... More

If you want to see horses, most of them famous, then go to Old Friends. You'll see them up close and personal, feed them carrots, and hear their stories. One of the best experiences ever. If you tour one horse farm or other horse attraction, make it this one.

We did this on the way to the airport on our last day in Kentucky, after hitting the Bourbon Trail. I have to say that this one of the highlights of our entire trip. The work that Dream Chase Farm is doing is honorable and important. To think of the treatment that these majestic creatures might otherwise receive if not... More

Old Friends is a very unique facility and the owner, Michael Blowen is a fabulous tour guide and story teller. Each horse on the farm has a compelling story and Silver Charm, the miniature horse, is a must see!! No fee but donations are accepted ...

The ONLY reason I have to give this location a low score is because we drove some distance to come and the only tour was at 11am that day, which we missed by many hours. Simply CALL AHEAD to check seasonal times for the tours. You may NOT see the grounds without a tour guide. It looks well worth going... More

My sister brought me here for a tour as we are both racing fans. What an excellent facility! They have retired thoroughbreds, including stallions, mares and geldings, that no longer race or breed and give them a place to live out the rest of their lives in s relaxed setting. You start out with a short narrative at the office... More

A must see for anyone traveling to Lexington (Georgetown). The best attraction I have ever been to. Fell in love with the place immediately. John Bradley, our guide ,was a walking, talking wealth of horse racing lore. It just went by too fast
