After a long time I could hear the rain on the trees with the chirping of birds. It was an amazing experience. The light drizzle actually added to the beauty of the place. It's simply out of the world!! I'm pretty sure I'll end up spending several of the coming mornings in this place.

We usually go in last summer or early fall. Great place to take the camera and get some wonderful pictures of family or scenery. Dogs are welcome, but on leash. Lots of wildlife to be seen here deer, turkey, birds of all sorts, and lots of flowers and natural beauty. Relax and stroll around the paths and take plenty of... More

Let's face it: Overland Park is mainly an abundance of strip malls, red lights and countless fast food restaurants. There's not that much to do that doesn't require money. That's why the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are such a wonderful thing in the city that sprawls endlessly. The grounds are filled with numerous gardens and trails and plenty of wildlife... More

•Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas (two hours) This was the most ambitious and diverse garden we visited. It appears to be out in the middle of nowhere (well, ok—surrounded by million dollar homes) and is organized in creatively overlapping themes. The first template is based on ecosystems (dry-mesic, dry oak savannah, dry oak hickory, mesic oak-hickory,... More

If you find yourself in Overland Park and need a break from the endless malls, these beautiful gardens, ponds, streams and trails should be the place to head for. There is plenty to see here and is suitable for all ages

With about 5 miles of trails through formal gardens, woodland habitat, and reclaimed prairie land, there is plenty here for everyone. The Monet Garden near the Visitor's Center has earned national recognition for its beauty. Look for the statue of Monet painting his lily pond. Head past the Herb Garden to see the lovely water gardens. In April and May... More

This was our second visit to the gardens, and it was during spring break week. Many families with children were enjoying the ponds, play areas and model trains. There are picnic tables, a medicine wheel, and a sculpture garden. Lots of walking trails--some paved. An information area has maps and advice on where to walk--indoor bathrooms and a snack bar... Any season best place to walk and see all different foliage. Any tough day can be made a little bit better by walking here. Worth the short drive to this place.

This is the first time we have been to this place. We had out of town guests & the weather was so nice, we decided this was a perfect time to go. Admission of $3.00 is reasonable. Note - It's free on Tuesday, if you can get away that day. We enjoyed walking the paves paths as well as the... More
