There are a number of open spaces within Overland Park, but none compensate for the area's urban sprawl as dramatically as the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. A nominal admission fee of $3 provides access to several miles of trails that meander through enchanting and extremely well maintained gardens, streams, and a small waterfall. A real delight for all ages!

Ez walking, tranquil gardens, friendly informative staff! I took my elderly mother who simply enjoyed herself with plenty of places to rest and sit through out gardens.

It was very big and many pretty plants and trees. I was disappointed that some of the flowers were not marked better. I found one flower plant in several places but could never find the name of it. It was very well maintained and has allot more acres to expand!

After a long time I could hear the rain on the trees with the chirping of birds. It was an amazing experience. The light drizzle actually added to the beauty of the place. It's simply out of the world!! I'm pretty sure I'll end up spending several of the coming mornings in this place.

We usually go in last summer or early fall. Great place to take the camera and get some wonderful pictures of family or scenery. Dogs are welcome, but on leash. Lots of wildlife to be seen here deer, turkey, birds of all sorts, and lots of flowers and natural beauty. Relax and stroll around the paths and take plenty of... More

Let's face it: Overland Park is mainly an abundance of strip malls, red lights and countless fast food restaurants. There's not that much to do that doesn't require money. That's why the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are such a wonderful thing in the city that sprawls endlessly. The grounds are filled with numerous gardens and trails and plenty of wildlife... More

•Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas (two hours) This was the most ambitious and diverse garden we visited. It appears to be out in the middle of nowhere (well, ok—surrounded by million dollar homes) and is organized in creatively overlapping themes. The first template is based on ecosystems (dry-mesic, dry oak savannah, dry oak hickory, mesic oak-hickory,... More

With about 5 miles of trails through formal gardens, woodland habitat, and reclaimed prairie land, there is plenty here for everyone. The Monet Garden near the Visitor's Center has earned national recognition for its beauty. Look for the statue of Monet painting his lily pond. Head past the Herb Garden to see the lovely water gardens. In April and May... More
