The Visitor Center is in a nicely restored 1899 Union Pacific Deport and it contains several sets set of Union Pacific dishes. The staff can provide information on the city's historic driving and walking districts and nearby specialty shopping. Not many visitors seems to know about the free 27 minute docudrama "Larence: Free State Fortress," which tell the story of... More

It's a former train station with a few exhibits and very little information. You can rent the space for special events. Other than that, I would not waste my time. The internet has made information centers somewhat obsolete in my eyes.

This is a good place to get information, brochures and maps about Lawrence. They even has a historic display (see photo) We thought it was so nice they were offering every a slice of pie. But just before I grabbed a piece, I realized that they other people were not fellow tourists but half of the area was being used... More

This building is the historic old train depot that Lawrencians used back when train travel was common. My wife took the train to Chicago from here in 1960. Today, the very attractive building has historical info about the area including self-guided tours. There is a short history video. It is popular for local events. It is worth a quick visit.

My husband and I recently attended an anniversary party here and I remembered why I often scheduled it for my late mother's family reunions. Building is nicely restored, grounds are beautifully landscaped. Be sure and check out the "From the Ashes" sculpture by the late Jim Brothers.

If you have never been to Lawrence, KS, this is a great place to start. The people will tell you about the local attractions and you can get good information on the area at the old train depot. But just for fun walk across the bridge from this location. It is a rush to see the river and the buildings... More

My parents were going to be visiting Lawrence for the first time, and I had heard that this was the place to come to find stuff to do in Lawrence. Was it ever! The staff were very nice, and they have an abundance of brochures for free that you can pick up. Everything from historical tours to bike maps to... More

The Visitor Center is the former main railway station for Lawrence. It is interesting to visualize how many people have passed through this station through the decades for a multitude of reasons. It is superbly restored and has a decent sized meeting room that can be rented reasonably for small gatherings through Lawrence Parks and Recreation. It also has a... More
