great for kids

Great place to take kids on hot summer days and see several live native species of Kansas. Can have birthday parties there too.

The boys and I have been visiting for seven years. The grounds are always well kept and interesting. The exhibit building, however, is another story. And this is not the fault of on site workers or volunteers. The interior is shabby, exhibits unkempt, dirty, aged, and stagnant. There is ample room for expanding the building, if the City of Lawrence... More

I love bringing my kids here. There is so much to do and see! The Nature Center has some great exhibits with live animals, including an area in the back with owls, eagles, and other large birds. If it isn't blazing hot out like it has been this summer, take a walk around Lake Mary - the paths are paved... More

I had expected more animals and different cages and viewing, but in saying that the possibilities for interaction with the animals by the children would be endless. It was interesting to hear the reasons for saving some of your native animals from extinction as they are pests in my own country, but in your ecosystem they are very necessary. It... More

We have been to the center dozens of times. It is small but friendly, with cool animals and displays. Plus admission is on a donation basis. It is also part of a park and small lake with walking paths.

Our family had never heard of this place before but decided to give it try. We had a great time looking at the animals and taking a nice walk to the lake. All the kids really enjoyed it (ages 9,3, and 1yr).

I took my grandchildren to this place to do a photo shoot. We ended up going inside to look at the birds and animals. We've been back at least once a month since then. It's great place for toddlers to go.

We love exploring the park and then warming up/ cooling off in the nature center. Perfect place to go on a rainy day. Lots of animals to look at and classes to attend. They offer day camps through Lawrence parks and rec department. Everyone is very nice.

It's great whether you signed up for a ranger program or not. Lots of hands on activities for kids and adults. The parrots are fun, if a bit loud!
