I thoroughly enjoyed a morning at the KU Natural History Museum in Lawrence, KS. The museum, on the KU Campus is four stories of exhibits. Visitors enter on the fourth floor where they can review a panorama of various wildlife found in natural habitats of the world ... rainforest, desert, Arctic, etc. Head down to the third floor (my favorite)... TIP: To minimize the cacophony of young students, go LATE DAY ! TIP: Spend time primarily in the areas that are interesting to YOU. TIP: Ride the bus. TIP: The UNION is next door. The IMPROMPTU café for lunch. TIP: KU is a beautiful campus. Allow extra time to just walk around and tour.

I'm a fan of natural history museums and spent a couple of hours enjoying myself in this one. It's located right on campus (which was a plus for me, since I was visiting) and had a sort of eclectic collection of fossils and taxidermies on 3/4 of the floors and a more child-friendly interactive set of exhibits on the last... It's a wonderful low cost activity. I took my grandson and we had a wonderful, fun time. The panorama exhibits are the best! Then huge stuffed brown bear makes for a great photo op.

We were looking for a rainy day activity to entertain multiple generations (toddler through grandparent). The Museum of Natural History was a perfect choice. Several of the exhibits had hands on activities and the displays were low enough to the ground that the toddler could see. The artifacts represented were impressive. The museum has a suggested donation of $5 per... More

For years, I took my 3rd graders to this museum for field trips. The display on the main floor of all kinds of wildlife is worth the trip. Commache, the horse from the Battle of Little Big Horn is a great display. There are various displays of wildlife from Kansas. Snakes, fish and other live animals are very interesting. The... More

4 floors of natural history, many fossils, many animals, many explanations of the evolution of species, etc. Free (donations accepted), worth an hour of visiting.

I have been visiting the museum since I've been young and now i take my children and nieces. The museum has something for every age group. Some interactive areas, live animals, and fossil displays. Plan on spending at least 2 hours.

We stopped at the Natural History Museum on our way to uptown. It was very interesting with many displays, including Commanche. Commanche was the only survivor of the true military engagers of the Battle of Little Big Horn. A very interesting story. While at the museum, you will find four floors with much to look at, read about and do.... More

I really dont think many people know what a gem of a museum they have right in their own back yard. Would love to know how many students go there. Anyway, it is a fun place to take kids and grandkids on a day out. Exhibits are very interesting.
