A truly beautiful spot! If you are traveling through Iowa and think it's flat, think again! The park is placed to offer easy access to spectacular views of the Mississippi River. Many additional well marked and maintained trails. You can do an 8 mile round trip hike from McGregor. No fee to this state park.

Pike's Peak was a nice quick hike, but the views weren't quite as majestic as I thought it had been made out to be. I did, however, see an owl, falcon, AND bald eagle on my hike, so it was a great hike.

We drove to Pike's Peak in the morning but were disappointed to find it enshrouded in fog. We left and went to the casino for a while. Afterwards we tried again and were happy to find it had cleared up a lot. The views were stunning. This is the highest bluff along the Mississippi River. The lookout is easily accessible... More

Easy and enjoyable. Nice views. Nice trails. Cleaner than the motel we stayed at. Easy to find and plenty of parking.

Nice overlook of the river without strenuous walking. This park was suggested instead of Wisconsin's Wyalusing Park due to the about of walking required there to get to the overlooks. Also able to see a large bear effigy, again without a strenuous trek!

It's very well maintained & FREE on the Iowa side, unlike the Wisconsin side where they charge to se the dame river!

We took a chance and drove an hour to find that there were still tent sites available on a busy beautiful weekend. We camped on site 47...perfect for us and away from some of the big camping rigs. Sites are $11 per night....well wooded and have both a pit toilet area, and also clean full showers and flush bathrooms that... More

This park is unforgettable and we almost missed it! I have a difficult time hiking so we almost passed up on this destination. But...you can drive all the way up and the view is only a short distance away and it is a paved surface. We even walked to the falls which is paved followed by a wooden walkway. There... More

We just got back from a weekend trip to Pikes Peak State Park, and cannot say enough about the beauty of the area. Who knew Iowa had such amazing hills? The views from the overlook are amazing and my husband enjoyed watching the trains go across the river. We took the path to see Bridal Veil Falls, which started out... More
