WE had a wedding here and the lady who runs the facility was very rude after we had rented the property, We missed wedding pictures because she said we could not get ready because she has paying customers. We were promised 4 days to decorate we got 2. We were promised to Monday night to clean up after the wedding,... More

There is no excuse for rudeness ever and we apologize for that. Communication is the key to a successful event for all parties. There have been 110 weddings in the Park in the last five years, many of them outside. More

The residents of Manning are very proud of this authentic Hausbarn which was disassembled in Holstein, Germany, shipped to the U.S., and reassembled on open land at the edge of town. On the same grounds is the Carroll County "Freedom Rock", one of 99 which will be painted in each county in Iowa. If you go, be sure to take... More

This authentic Hausbarn was brought from Germany to Manning, Iowa, in 1996, and reassembled by German craftsmen. It sits on a farmstead that has been placed on the National Registry of Historic Places, which includes a 1917 Arts and Crafts House, a carriage house with the farm manager's apartment, a barn, scale house, chicken house, and even a separate building... While the Barnhaus itself didn't take long to see, the entire complex was worth the trip. The Barnhaus was constructed in Germany in the 1660s (yes, it's that old). It was totally dismantled, shipped to the US, and it was reassembled in its present location. My only complaint was that the Barnhaus and other buildings had numerous large signs on... More

Even though we had to do all the set up and clean up, this was a magnificent place to have a summer wedding. The staff (made up of mostly volunteers) was very accommodating!

Coming back from Des Moines left I80 to the Danish Windmill (Elk Horn), the little mermaid (Kimballton) and just had to see the hausbarn in Manning. Fantastic setting a lot of old history in the Bauernhaus (aka hausbarn). Then 141 back to I29 and off to Rapid City - fantastic site.

This is a faithfully-reconstructed Hausbarn that was originally in Germany.

We really enjoyed the Manning Heritage Park, very interesting and well-maintained. The hausbarn was brought over from Germany, it was buit in 1660. Something you will not see in the U.S. and great historical artifacts and interesting displays. The farmstead and church were also great, farmstead we really enjoyed! If you like historical sites, you will not be disappointed. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sdld/sets/72157624631915550/

The quiet quant town of Manning is very friendly and amazingly vibrant. There aren't the thrills or accomodations one would normally associate with a vacation spot, but instead a family friendly experiance.
