We spent a long weekend at the lake, staying at the Horn's Ferry Hideaway. I can't say enough good things about the cabins there. Very comfortable and clean, and the owners were handy if needed.

The lake is so large that it's never terribly crowded. Especially during the week.

Camping, swimming, boating, fishing, birding and hiking opportunities abound here. In February, watch the Eagles in abundance. Other times bring other waterfowl, including pelicans.

Beautiful scenery. Walking or biking trails along the lake. The dam i pretty cool too. I like camping below the dam. The spaces are spread apart so you don't feel like you are in your neighbor's space.

Lake Red Rock is the largest lake in Iowa - formed by a dam that is built on the Des Moines river.
