Good museum, full of exhibits, some of which you can interact with such as the helicopter you can sit into. Unfortunately as I did not have an American driving licence, I was not able to drive to the museum as its on a live Military base and they have a policy of only letting people with American licences to drive... Neat little museum on Camp Dodge in Johnston. Focuses on Iowans and Iowas contributions to the War efforts from the time we became a state to current day. Nicely laid out so you can follow the history of Iowa in the wars with ease. Also a nice little section on the history of the Iowa Highway Patrol including every style of... More

I actually had a class at the museum, and on lunch break, I walked through. I was so impressed (and I didn't get to see everything) that I went back again with my wife. They have a very large collection of military weaponry, uniforms, and vehicles. There is so much to see and so much to read about the history... More

Took my son here for some military history and so he could work on a school project. Had a great time even though it was raining. Toured the museum with our guide who was every knowledgeable about every thing in the building. Thanks to the staff. Fun Day...

I thought it would be much more about Iowans in the military, maybe more about Iowans (names?) who died during active duty. Seemed to be more of a general military museum with a Iowa tilt. Kids enjoyed it, just not what I expected. Was looking forward to find info about relatives (Iowans) who died in action, info wasn't there.

All about Iowans in the military starting with the Civil War. Rotating exhibits so you'll see something new each time. Static display to the North of the museum - there is a little parking lot up there as well. Some hands on items for the kids. Also a little exhibit on the Iowa Patrol. When you leave, head up to... The Iowa Gold Star Museum is located at Camp Dodge and it's well worth the trip. We had a great time learning about the military history of the area.
