This is cool to see but not really a destination in itself. I took a friend who was visiting from out of town and this was one of the things we saw the day we spent in Iowa City. If you're going to be on the Ped Mall anyway and are interested in this sort of thing grab a guide... More

As you walk down Iowa Avenue, you can look at the plaques on the sidewalk and learn about the literary history of the area.

We spent about an hour walking up and down both sides of Iowa Street looking at the various literary quotes set in brass and imbedded in the sidewalk. Much more creative then I imagined, with visual themes in the brass embodying the quote. There were also quotes set in the cement which in many cases are now starting to deteriorate... More

While walking along Iowa Avenue take time to look down. There are quotes from many authors carved into the pavement. While some of them are getting worn down, many can be clearly seen. Also stop at the large books and take a glance inside the pages shown.

We didn't do the full walk but loved the dozen or so that we saw. I loved Kurt Vonnegut's piece. Wish we had seen more. Very cover use of talent.

Some people call this the pedestrian mall walk, I think. It is fun looking at all of the Iowa Hawkeye decorations, and also the brass statues, and all of the interesting sidewalk sayings, someone has been pretty creative, the park benches are all painted by students. This is worth the walk, and I would recommend it to a family. There... More

Much of the walk is plaques in the sidewalk. It is difficult to enjoy it when there are many other pedestrians. So go during the Hawkeye game it is much quieter. This would not be something for young kids.

Never been anywhere where their Walk of Fame celebrates key literary figures. This town has it's priorities straight. Hint: Go to Prarie Lights Bookstore and buy the guide to the Literary Walk for $3.

Brass busts of famous authors blended into the pavement. U of Ia on the north and downtown on the south. Best dining at Atlas World Grill $$(a la carte).
