Got an hour or two to spend before going to a ball game or dinner, check this place out. Its free and kids and grownups alike will enjoy taking some time and walking through this museum. Just warn your kids there will not be dinosaurs, that was the only disappointment for my daughter. Once she got over that fact she... More

The exhibits were interesting and full of fascinating information for kids and adults . It's just the right size for an afternoon outing.

The opportunity to see the primate and bird exhibits were outstanding for my little one, however you can tell on entry that there is a need for additional funding to keep this hidden treasure alive. I think just the location inside a college liberal arts building and the love the staff has for the location bumped the score. Unfortunate there... More

...it's just right for kids, especially those in elementary school. Beloved destination of locals, our IC kids grow up being toted to MacBride Hall at least once a year. Rusty the Giant Sloth, (Look, honey, those once roamed across Iowa!) created using over a thousand cow tail tassels, is something of a local celeb. Check out the mammoth's bumpy molars.... More

I didn't know this existed until about 6 years after moving to this area. I love museums, especially Natural History, so I'm pretty delighted it exists. You can get in about any time, but it can be a little weird at first since there's no front desk or lobby or guides or anything like that. You wander around on your... More

I've been in this museum hundreds of times over the years, but always find new and interesting exhibits when I visit. Goes to show you need more than one visit to appreciate it!

There are three exhibit halls in McBride hall. The first, located in the main entrance, is Iowa Hall. This well crafted but small exhibit hall walks you through the history of Iowa, starting with the Devonian and ending with modern agriculture. Most people enjoy the left side (ancient history) which features a very nice plecoderm model and a reconstructed young... More

Some very interesting artifacts. Teens thought Rusty the Giant Sloth was awesome & worth the stop. 1/2 hour was plenty of time...an hour if you really took your time.

I took my nephew (6yrs) and niece (3yrs) to this museum and they had a great time. They really liked the stuffed animals such as the giant sloth and polar bear. The mammal hall upstairs is pretty neat. I loved the right whale skeleton. Some of the exhibits you can tell are fairly old. It's not a huge museum either... More
