We saw Shovels and Rope, with two opening acts during the Mission Creek festival. Ticket policy of charging a fee for any type of ticket delivery, including Will Call, and not offering a print your own offering was strange. But then having the weirdly uniformed doorman, and not opening the doors till 7:20ish, when advertised the doors open at 7... More

I love the Englert Theater for it's charming atmosphere and amazing performances. I highly recommend seeing a show a the Englert if you are visiting Iowa City.

Saw Seum Kuti and Egypt 8-. Small seating capacity so every seat is a great one. Audience could get up and dance. Comfortable and fun

Old movie house updated but has a lot of original features. Also entertaining. Great place for couples, but small children would be board not the kind of entertainment they would enjoy,

Very well done. The actors and musicians had you on the edge of your seat. Truly gifted musicians and actors. Definitely worth your time to see

My wife and I saw a comedy act here. The theater is over 100 years old, but it's been updated. The decor and the theater in general is pretty basic. There wasn't an actual bar to order drinks. Saw Mike Birbiglia here last fall, what a great space! We were in the second row, but the theater is laid out in such a way that there isn't a bad seat. Beautiful old venue with friendly and courteous staff.

Went to a concert here....after reading the other reviews that this venue was recently renovated, I was shocked! I was thinking it was in need of a renovation! The Englert is over 100 years old and now because of the restoration home to a number of musical and theatrical events. The size of the theatre makes for an intimate atmosphere and enjoyment of any production.
