Great venue to see live music you can't see everywhere The doorman is an asset, and part of the whole englert experience.

The acoustics are better here than lots of places that have concerts in the area. It is intimate and there are not bad seats really.
Lucky Iowa Citians to have this theater in town! We saw a filmed performance of a [UK] National Theatre play, "People.". The acoustics were good, the seats comfortable, and I was impressed with the overall cleanliness of the place. The doorman was a nice touch, too. Judging from the posters outside, there are a wide range of offerings in any...

Built in 1912 amidst prosperous economic times, the Englert Theater building still stands today with a lighted marquis in front. I have enjoyed numerous productions here over the years, including attending movies at the Englert Theater as a kid back in the late 1960's when it was one large theater, then in the late 70's after it was divided into...

Went for a concert. There is no "WOW" factor in this theatre although it's very nicely decorated. Holds about 550 people which is a very nice size. We sat in the last row of seats but we had a great view of the stage and the sound was awesome! The seats were also very comfortable. Would definitely go back.
We have enjoyed several concerts here. The sound is great and no seats are that far away. Though if you sit in the rear seats of the balcony you might want some binoculars in order to see the faces of the performers. Plenty of fine places to eat nearby.
I've been here many times for concerts in Downtown Iowa City and this is a great place for a show. The fact that wine and beer are also served just adds to the charm. Dinner plus a concert at the Englert is a recipe for a good time in IC.
I love the Englert! We saw Mike Birbiglia and Ingrid Michaelson there on two separate nights. I really appreciated that they have the sound system set up so that you hear it perfectly and it is louder than those talking around you, but it does not even come close to hurting your ears.
The Englert also hosts a variety of...
