I enjoy the view, the runs, the lifts and the friendly workers at Sundown. The prices are very reasonable. Their hours are very appropriate for the season.

Nice variety of terrain and what I especially liked is, unlike many midwestern ski areas, Sundown has cut their runs through the trees - almost like a Colorado ski area would - rather than just offer a big wide open bowl. Even though it hadn't snowed in a few days the snow conditions were great. Their groomers deserve a raise..great... More

We are so glad you had a great time! Our Snow Crew really does an excellent job maintaining the slopes for all of us to play on. I will pass on your praises, we hope to see you around again this winter! More

I went with my family. I am 8 years old and I have only skied a few times. I really liked the green trails. The chair lift was fun. The food at the lodge was good. I ate the fries twice. I would say the equipment fit well. Go early in the morning when no one is there. It really... More

Joe, you rock! Thanks for the kind words! We won't tell anyone you ate the fries twice... we do that quite often, they are delicious :) We are so glad you got to spend time with your family on the slopes and hope you come back again this winter! More

It's not Colorado, but the chair lift was fast and there were few lines. It's a little odd that you have to buy lift tickets and pay to rent equipment in one building and then go to a second building to actually get the equipment, but the process went fairly quickly for us.

Thanks for the review... We are so glad you had a good time on the slopes! As far as the building set-up, we took your advise and we are in the middle of making a new lodge that will house all ticketing and rental in ONE convenient location! The building will be active Winter 2015. Hope to see you back... More

We have been to Sundown multiple times as well as other ski parks. Sundown isn't the largest but it is great for some fun outdoor recreation without having to drive for over 4 hours. They have just about any ski size you could need for rental (we brought our kids). We were also informed that they are fixing the issue... More

Thanks for bringing the family to Sundown, Angel! As it looks like you already know, we will have a new lodge, Winter 2015 that will house lift tickets and rental. Your family will be able to grab their rentals and step outside onto the Beginner Hill, no more stairs. Hope to see you guys back again for another weekend trip! More

My boyfriend and I went skiing for the first time with a beginners package deal we got from our local newspaper which included free ski rental and 1.5 hour lesson. The lessons are fun and not at all intimidating or scary. The instructors are enthusiastic and make the experience fun. They give great advice. You're on your skis the whole... More

So happy you had a great time, Libby! Kuddos to you guys for trying something new and not 'hibernating' for the winter... Hope to see you back again this coming season! Cheers :) More

I have never done snowboarding before, so doing this for first time was a good experience. Whether you choose snowboarding or ski, I recommend wear sunglasses and a scarf or a face mask. Last beginner training is at 12. If traveling from Coralville/Iowa city, takes almost 2 hours to get to Dubuque. If you need a helmet you need to... More

Sundown is a great place to ski in Iowa. The Friday night special is a good deal for a lift ticket and ski rental.

Our 5 kids had a blast as first time skiers at Sundown Mountain as they and their classmates felt safe trying to make it down the hillsides without falling. And if they did fall? They just got up and tried it again. Like the waves of an ocean, a hillside of snow is an endless toy.

Joan, Thank you for the review! The hillside of snow is truly an "endless toy" for us as well. We are glad that we can share our passion for skiing and snowboarding with others. Hope to see you all on the slopes at Sundown soon! More

Sundown is better than Chestnut....less crowded, more variety, better prices. However the lodge/rental house is very dated and a bit smelly. But, skiing is better at Sundown. Worth checking out! No comparison to Wisconsin resorts but how can you even compare the areas in regards to landscape?

Hey Briggie - Thanks for the comments! Sundown is excited to be in the process of building a brand new lodge in the next upcoming seasons! This summer Sundown started the process off by leveling and building up areas of the parking lot. We also moved and added major electrical components to start the process... There should be no more... More
