This is a magical place where volunteers have carried out a vision of beauty, ecology and music. There are regular concerts here during the warm season that range from the Dubuque Symphony to jazz to blues to blue grass. Make sure you look for the incredible hosta garden and the Japanese fountain.

We visited during a very hot afternoon in early September and there were very few folks wandering around, giving us almost exclusive -if unguided- access to the beautiful gardens and paths and ponds. I am not a gardener at all, just a fan and, at arboretums and gardens, a gawker. Had it been slightly cooler, we would've strolled another hour.... More

The arboretum and the botanical gardens in Dubuque, are fantastic, there is a playground for little kids, walking trails, a gift shop, lots of flowers and trees, and even a pond, with some beautiful golden orange fish. The kids loved it. I would recommend checking it out, a fun place for the entire family. If you want to have a... More

We visited this attraction primarily to see the Diplomats of Solid Sound play in nature. The set up to watch live music (for free!) is pretty decent; a bit of a natural amphitheater. Bring a picnic, libations and kick back! We didn't venture onto the grounds, but the walk to the bathroom enticed my visual senses so much that we... More

Charming little arboretum. Have to come back when the hastas are in full bloom. The Japanese garden is nicely done, a pleasant surprise.

I finally took the time to visit the gardens when my granddaughter came for a few days. She and I were really amazed at how beautiful everything was. The roses are so colorful and smell so sweet. There is a little garden called Peter Rabbits garden with small benches for children, a little garden shed and statues of the rabbits... More

As other reviewers have noted, it is a bit tricky to find, but worth a visit! Beautiful views: ponds, small waterfalls, interesting mix of textures. Lots of unique, colorful flower combinations in the "upper" section - saw some hummingbirds enjoying them. We didn't have kids with us but it seemed very kid friendly; there were lots of little ones walking... More

We were impressed with the variety of gardens at the Dubuque Arboretum. They have very nice walking paths that provide much needed shade on hot summer days. There was also no fee to enter the gardens. A very nice way to spend a summer afternoon.
