Couldn't determine what is historic about this district just west of the State Capital. There are art shops and some restaurants, and the old City Hall building, but found more shops and restaurants closed than opened for a Saturday. If it wasn't for the Latino Festival crowd on the streets, I wouldn't have hung around. Many restaurants were not open,... More

The coolest part of Des Moines, apart from Sherman Hill. To me, if it doesn't have history, it isn't interesting! My favorite antique store in the world, Found Things, is located in the East Village. My only complaint is the lack of a free parking lot. Other than that, it is fabulous place to walk around and shop.

I thought the area was great with the restaurants and shops. Some of the boutiques were pricey while others for fun and priced well. I got a few fun things in Raygun to take home with me. I didn't get some of the midwest jokes but my bf was happy to explain them. I also like the spice store, Allspice.... More

I really think the shops in the East Village are some of the best any city has to offer! All of them had such helpful employees and great products. Liberty Gifts was really cool!

We found East Village to be a wonderful place to stretch your legs and spend a couple bucks. We discovered a few restaurants and loads of stores selling "junque". It's nice to be able to step back and admire the architecture of some of Des Moines' older buildings, some of which are on the historical register. It can be a... More

The East Village of Des Moines is a wonderful little place to visit, across the river from the big downtown. It is worth the walk or very short drive.

This is a great part of town to visit with lots of bars, restaurants, and little shops to visit. A must do if you are in the city for the night.

As a flight attendant I travel all over the country. I've always thought Iowans were the friendliest of all. However, I was very disappointed to find that this was not the case with the proprietors in the East Village. I found them to be very cold and aloof. I was not greeted when I entered the different shops. I found... More

My sis and I were in the East Village on a Monday. We were very disappointed that we found a lot of the shops are closed on Monday's. We did see things we really liked but, the stores we went into, we couldn't afford to buy anything. It would be nice if there were stores where the average person can... More

Was here for a convention and stayed a couple extra days to poke around at our leisure. Admittedly, our expectations were low. But we were pleasantly surprised by the great vibe, the nice people, the relaxed atmosphere. We found lots to do with lots of small local businesses which were eclectic and fun to discover. City Bakery was great for... More
