We found East Village to be a wonderful place to stretch your legs and spend a couple bucks. We discovered a few restaurants and loads of stores selling "junque". It's nice to be able to step back and admire the architecture of some of Des Moines' older buildings, some of which are on the historical register. It can be a... More

The East Village of Des Moines is a wonderful little place to visit, across the river from the big downtown. It is worth the walk or very short drive.

This is a great part of town to visit with lots of bars, restaurants, and little shops to visit. A must do if you are in the city for the night.

As a flight attendant I travel all over the country. I've always thought Iowans were the friendliest of all. However, I was very disappointed to find that this was not the case with the proprietors in the East Village. I found them to be very cold and aloof. I was not greeted when I entered the different shops. I found... More

My sis and I were in the East Village on a Monday. We were very disappointed that we found a lot of the shops are closed on Monday's. We did see things we really liked but, the stores we went into, we couldn't afford to buy anything. It would be nice if there were stores where the average person can... More

Was here for a convention and stayed a couple extra days to poke around at our leisure. Admittedly, our expectations were low. But we were pleasantly surprised by the great vibe, the nice people, the relaxed atmosphere. We found lots to do with lots of small local businesses which were eclectic and fun to discover. City Bakery was great for... More

We spent a few hours in East Village on a recent trip to the city. The area is pretty and very walkable. Stores were hit and miss, but did house some fun places. Be sure to stop in Stitch for some artsy gifts and decor!

East Village in Des Moines is an unexpected treasure! Great shopping and wonderful restaurants. I especially always like Lululemon, Velvet Coat and Aimee. There is a new store called Stitch that has great fabrics and quilting products with a very cool updated feel. Great place to shop alone or with friends.

We stayed in the Embassy Suites in the East Village and walked round the area fairly extensively; though there are quite a few decent bars, shops and restaurants there really isn't that much here and you'll smash it in less than two hours unless you include a long walk up to the State Capitol and Holocaust Memorial (which are both...
