Love this area of Des Moines. Unique shops and restaurants. My favorite store is Allspice, selling oils, vinegars and spices. Just an overall fun area every time I visit.

I love Des Moines' East Village. There's so much to do during your stop - from shopping to dining, it's like its own little town surrounded by the rest of the city. When I need to get away from suburban life in West Des Moines, I head to East Village!

It doesn't seem all that long ago, this area was nothing but old hotels and run-down buildings. Now it's an eclectic vibrant area with an ample selection of bars, shopping and restaurants that you won't find anywhere else.

This was a cute area of Des Moines to walk around. Plenty of cute shops, places to eat, some bars, and ample metered parking.

Small area in size, but making a huge impact on the city. Former decrepit warehouse and brick building area, some buildings were razed while others restored. New modern urban lofts. Some of which have businesses below and living above. Hip and trendy restaurants that have brought in national TV food and chef stars recently to do their shows. Bicycle parking.... More

The east village has been going through several stages of revitalization. They are adding more apartments and storefronts, trying to actively bring in more unique shops and people. You can find all sorts of interesting shops, restaurants, a few bars, Asian grocery, the historical museum, etc. Be sure to check out Raygun and the other local shops.

An area that covers about 10 blocks just below the state capital loaded with charming store fronts and restaurants to visit. They even have a store front called Alasaudras' Italian Cooking where you can join in and get your hands on experience in an Italian cooking class to learn how to cook authentic Italian food.
