This is a small zoo, but that adds to its charm for us. We are able to enjoy the zoo and not feel spent halfway through. There a wide range of animals to see and the facilities are kept very clean. The staff is very helpful and everything is reasonably priced. This is great family fun!

We were on our way back to Chicago from Omaha and thought what a great side trip. It was. It's a quaint zoo. Didn't realize it was a bit out of the way but it was ok. Kiss had fun feeding the fish, ostriches, And giraffes. It only took less then two hours to get through it all. Wish there... More

The Blank Park Zoo is not a huge zoo, but they really make the most of what they have. The exhibits are all very well done, with educational displays that are attractive. Not a huge number of animals, but able to get really close to the ones they have. Several options to interact with and to feed the animals. The... More

While not a very large zoo, there are plenty of attractions for a day trip with the kids (or no kids!). Lots of shade throughout the zoo if its hot. You can feed ostriches, giraffes, fish/ducks, parakeets, and goats. Of course, there is a fee to these. I didn't like that there were set times for feeding the animals. Other... More

I had time to kill while I was in town and really enjoyed the zoo in Des Moines. I wish it was a little bigger but it seems like it will be expanding in the future!

disclaimer: We are from Omaha, and regularly attend Henry Doorly which has #1 zoo ranking (nationally & worldwide) from many organizations. So our expectations are high. The Blank Park Zoo had some animal on display not a seen at all zoos. It was clean, had nice walking paths and participates in reciprocity if you have a zoo pass to hundreds... More

I have lived my whole life (58 years!) in Iowa and this was my first visit to the zoo. We arrived at opening and stayed about 3 hours. The grounds are immaculate. The animals are very well cared for and I was impressed that they seemed very contented with their surroundings. The employees were very informative and considerate. The info... More

My family is from Des Moines, so we end up visiting the Blank Park Zoo about once a year. It's definitely good for our younger kids, but I think older children and adults may not find it as interesting as many other midwestern zoos. Admission costs are a little higher than usual, too, although sometimes you can get a good... More

I was not expecting much from the Des Moines Blank Park Zoo, especially after practically growing up at the amazing Henry Doorly zoo in Omaha. After living in Des Moines for over a year, I finally ventured to the Blank Park Zoo to partake in Zoo Brew. For those that aren't familiar with Zoo Brew, it's a chance for adults... More
