Owner description: The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. Annually attracting more than a million people from all over the world, the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is Iowa’s great celebration, a salute to the state’s best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. It is the true heartbeat of the Midwest, unequalled and unduplicated. The Iowa State Fair, the inspiration for the original novel “State Fair” by Iowan Phil Stong, three motion pictures and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway musical, is without a doubt the country’s most famous state fair. National media frequently rank the Fair as one of the top events in the country. In 2004, USA Weekend named the event the #2 choice for summer fun in America, topping New York City’s Times Square, Cedar Point Amusement Park Resort in Ohio and Disneyland in California. Midwest Living magazine named the Fair one of the “Top 30 Things Every Midwesterner Should Experience.” The Fair is also included in the New York Times best-selling travel book 1000 Places to See Before You Die and the subsequent travel book, 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before you Die. Been years since I've been to a state fair, but if you are into farming and agriculture this is the one to go to! Lots to do and the food vendors are amazing. Entertainment is great too. Get there early (Before 9) because the parking lots fill up very fast.

I have been going to the iowa state fair since I was a young girl, I enjoy every minute of it, there is something for all ages. I love the competition in the food, agricultural, animals. I love the Cowgirl Contest, it is fun watching the girls in there fancy cowgirl outfits and the horses too. In the evening there... More

Seriously. Why do people go here in the hot sun with normally high humidity to eat high calorie fatty foods? Save your money and travel somewhere. Get out of Iowa. There is nothing here you haven't seen.

Iowa really has the best and biggest state fair, true to its agricultural roots. It truly is a celebration of all things Iowan. It is a must if you are a resident of the state, but even if you aren't it is certainly worth the visit.

The Varied Industries building was a good location and great parking for vendors and attendees. Conference breakout rooms very accommodating. Exhibit space roomy, didn't feel cramped. The lunch which was delicious was held upstairs and the elevator stopped working. Some folks may have been a little nervous having to walk up two flights of stairs.

That everything is so overpriced. I hate the overpriced parking and that they make you repay to park if you leaved for lunch and come back even with the ticket.

The Iowa Staadmissionis one of the best state fairs you can find. It is open 10days in August. There is a hotel across the street and camping. Both need reservations in advance. If you like walking, eating food on a stick, walking, rides, people watching, farm animals you will get it here. ●There are Grandstand Shows nightly that tickets go... More

Nothing compares! More free entertainment, great food, something to see around every corner! Headliner at the Grandstand every night, along with Tractor Pulls! Horses, pigs, cows, bunnies, birds, they have it all. Don't miss the Big Boar and the Big Bull. Anything you could imagine is doldrums on a stick...the best is still a pork chop. They also offer various... More
