Description: The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event...
The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. Annually attracting more than a million people from all over the world, the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is Iowa’s great celebration, a salute to the state’s best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. It is the true heartbeat of the Midwest, unequalled and unduplicated. The Iowa State Fair, the inspiration for the original novel “State Fair” by Iowan Phil Stong, three motion pictures and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway musical, is without a doubt the country’s most famous state fair. National media frequently rank the Fair as one of the top events in the country. In 2004, USA Weekend named the event the #2 choice for summer fun in America, topping New York City’s Times Square, Cedar Point Amusement Park Resort in Ohio and Disneyland in California. Midwest Living magazine named the Fair one of the “Top 30 Things Every Midwesterner Should Experience.” The Fair is also included in the New York Times best-selling travel book 1000 Places to See Before You Die and the subsequent travel book, 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before you Die. There is so much to see and do at the Iowa State Fair. You can definitely eat your way through the fair grounds, anything you can think of and lots of things you have never thought about. Love the large variety of animals, especially the biggest boar or bull. The grounds are well maintained. If you are a people watcher,... More

What a spectacle. No matter where your interests lie you can find it here. From anything agricultural, see the big boar, big bull, piglets, all breeds of everything in between. THE BUTTER COW, talent contests, hog calling, sky glider rides, monster trucks and great concerts and you can eat just about anything on a stick or otherwise. The best is... More

What a beautiful fair ground. Clean and well maintained. Walked several of the paths that lead around the grounds. Always something going on, even in May!

Our Iowa State Fair, held in August is an American classic. If you're nearby, drive through the grounds anytime it get an idea of the layout, and then return in August for the fair. The grounds is a busy place year-round with many public and private events.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is just the State Fair - they do a terrific job of having other things going on throughout the year. Junk Jubilee, Flea Markets, dog shows, dirt track racing, and so on! The grounds are well kept too.

I've been to state fairs all over the country and none of them compare to the Iowa State Fair. It's by far the best! Buy your tickets in advance of the fair at local grocery stores and you can save a lot of money. Speaking of money, make sure you take some cash with you. Most of the fair food... More

This is truly unique experience. The fair was great this year. The weather cooperated and that was a plus. It has gotten to be that you are unable to see it all in one day. We plan on making the trip to the State Fair again next year. Great family fun!!
