Description: The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event...
The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. Annually attracting more than a million people from all over the world, the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is Iowa’s great celebration, a salute to the state’s best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. It is the true heartbeat of the Midwest, unequalled and unduplicated. The Iowa State Fair, the inspiration for the original novel “State Fair” by Iowan Phil Stong, three motion pictures and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway musical, is without a doubt the country’s most famous state fair. National media frequently rank the Fair as one of the top events in the country. In 2004, USA Weekend named the event the #2 choice for summer fun in America, topping New York City’s Times Square, Cedar Point Amusement Park Resort in Ohio and Disneyland in California. Midwest Living magazine named the Fair one of the “Top 30 Things Every Midwesterner Should Experience.” The Fair is also included in the New York Times best-selling travel book 1000 Places to See Before You Die and the subsequent travel book, 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before you Die. The Iowa State Fair is the best state fair. There is a variety of things to do and see. Must see is the Butter Cow. The giant slide is our favorite with the amazing fruit stand next to it. There are big crowds on the weekend and evenings. A little less during the daytime. I suggest starting in the morning... More

The Iowa State Fair is the Best State fair, and I have been to a few! Clean, friendly and easy to park with a short walk to the gates.

We've been going to the State Fair for several years now. The crowds are huge and it's always hot but it's fun to try some of the favorite fair foods that are only available at the Iowa State Fair.

It was an awesome show & the Fairgrounds were beautiful. Would liked to have had more time to walk around or be there during the fair. Lots of great people. Friendly area.

The grounds are large and some new buildings have AC. If you are going to the fair, wear good walking shoes, take water and sunscreen. Be prepared to feel grimy after a sweaty day. If you go for another event, it might be more comfortable and there is ample parking. concessions are horrible unless you eat at a church sponsored... More

Its the Iowa State Fair. You know there's going to be a TON of people there. So get used to that idea before you go. That having been said, get on the shuttle by the Capitol, or any of the places the Fair shuttle goes. It costs $1-$2 to ride, and will drop you off RIGHT at the fair gate,... More

A real mid American agriculture show that was bigger than Ben hurr, yep giant pumpkins, honey that was delicious, cows, hogs and goats , but the roar of the stadium with the hero,s cranking their motorcycles at over a 100 miles per hour on a dirt circular track won it for me, yep a visit to the states is incomplete... Beautiful fairgrounds and perfect for the annual Goodguys Car Show! The grounds have many benches to sit and rest as well as many things to do and see. There are a lot of different places to eat as well. The Sky Ride was an incredible way to view everything from above.
