Breakfast burritos, homemade bread, live music, belly dancers, fresh produce, orchids and flowers, jewelry, pastries...something for everyone! Free parking in the downtown parking garages. We arrive by 8:30am and there's plenty left. On the way home stop by Graziano Brother's Italian market at 1601 South Union which is just a few miles away. Quaint, quirky and everything Italian. You'll LOVE... More

We love to go to downtown Farmers Market in the spring, summer and fall! We go for the fresh produce, homemade goods like jams or crafty items, great food stands and lots of friendly people. Whenever my family is in town, they always want to go. We love to support local vendors!

There's lots of produce vendors, all kinds of food offered, and hand-made items made by local artists, music, even dancing. There was also an assortment of emergency vehicles, firetrucks, etc. there for the little kids to see. It's great for the whole family. We were actually in Des Moines for a wedding and someone at our hotel mentioned the market... More

Has fresh produce some art and a number of musicians every Saturday in the Spring Summer and the fall. It is a great place to meet friends and people watch. Every week you can find something different.

I enjoy going to the downtown farmers market however there are way too many dogs with owners who do not control them. They let them get right up to the stands and sniff and lick produce, food, drink, etc. Also the stands that sell jewelry, pottery, etc need to be on a separate street and away from the food. I... The downtown farmers market in Des Moines is fantastic. Lots of food, lots of produce and lots of character. We go as often as we can. The market is open 7 AM to Noon from May through October. They also have a winter market that is held inside Capitol Square.

There is tons of food items to eat while you shop for locally grown produce and local shops. It quite crowded with lots of people and family dogs, but it is enjoyable for a visit once or twice during the summer. Things are a bit pricey, but that is to be expected as it has been locally made.

There's a little bit of everything here, from great food (to go and food to eat while you're here) to flowers and plants to crafts to entertainment to people-and-pet-watching. And it's huge, so plan an hour or more to see it all. And it's appropriate for EVERYONE. Make it a Saturday morning date (why not?), time with the family, or... More
