Not only is this building filled with an amazing selection of art, but the grounds are as well. Multiple outside pieces to enjoy as well as the rose garden. I have been coming here since I was just a small child because there is always old favorite and something new. They are open on weekends til the afternoon as well... More

They have a regular exhibit which are always good to see. I went there by myself and had time to appreciate the art in display. The receptionist was helpful in providing information. Don't miss this center when you are in Des Moines.

We took our kids here last year (teenage boys) and we all agreed it is a fantastic place to visit. We are not huge art fans, but this place is truly amazing and it's just the right size for someone who may be overwhelmed by larger venues. There is a sculpture section that's especially fun to see. There is also... More

I visited this museum while staying with friends in the adjacent neighborhood and it was a lovely surprise! A very nice modern collection and the spaces for the galleries are equally beautiful. There are also nice walking trails in the area behind the museum so if it is a nice day, you may want to explore after your visit. The... More

This is a wonderful place to visit. Lots of different types of art. I liked the paintings, statues, and water art. The are short films also.

This museum is not to be missed! What a wonderful collection, including some great contemporary pieces, and the past well represented. Picasso, Henry Moore, Julian Schnebel, Calder, Rothko, Bacon, Grant Wood, the list goes on. Well curated, wonderful presentation, very knowledgeable staff. And make sure you have lunch in the excellent restaurant!

Every trip is made so much better when art is part of the trip. We visited this center and two galleries nearby. We brought home something that will help us never forget the time we had.

Made a special trip to Des Moines to see an exhibit by El Anatsui. We saw a few works by him a couple of years ago and decided that if there was an exhibit of his works within 500 miles we would visit it. It was a great exhibit in an excellent venue. We were impressed with the size and... More

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon studying the works of El Anatsui from Africa. Had amazing conversation with Milton Burno on the 3rd floor. Viewed his artwork too, that he began at the age of 60 years young. Very knowledgeable man about the art pieces. Relaxed in the restaurant for a tasty lunch. Catlin was our waitress and she has a delightful... More

We drove from Chicago to Des Moines just for this museum and it was 100% worth it. It's a really wonderful space -- designed by 3 different architects. The building itself is art! All the staff is very knowledgable, friendly, and accessible. Definitely worth a trip!
