Very inspiring time. Only problem was that many parts of the center were closed for various reasons. Restaurant was closed too. Some guards were little more talkative. Whistling... I'm a quiet art observer. Lady at the front desk was super nice and helpful. I had a great time.

We came to see the regionalists artist like Benton but there wasn't much of that. We were pleasantly surprised at how much of the contemporary art we liked (we often don't get much out of those). There also is a nice impressionistic, expressionistic and modern works by favorites such as munter, jawlensky Hartley, Prendergast, Hassam, Monet, Brancusi, arp, cassatt and... More

Given the size of Des Moines it has a very nice art center. Admission is free, there's a place to hang your coat; but no lockers. There's a nice gift shop with a variety of items for sale. There are also activities for families to make the experience more interactive for children. The art center has a nice permanent collection,... More

My daughter was an art student and one of her classes required her to go through the art center and draw various items throughout the many exhibits. She had specific collections and artists she had to draw. The staff was very helpful. I had never been and was very impressed with how many exhibits they had. I have purchased some... More

The Des Moines Art Center is a facility that would certainly not be out of place in a much larger city. It holds a substantial collection of classic and contemporary artworks, as well as numerous sculptures, a variety of larger installations and a decent gift shop. Like a previous reviewer, we were lucky to see the ‘It’s Your Choice’ exhibition,... More

I am a former art teacher and used to take my students annually to the Des Moines Art Center. We always enjoyed the informative docent tours. The galleries are constantly changing, with art moved to new locations or art rotated out of storage. Currently the main exhibit is rarely seen works from the permanent collection that were picked by a... More

The art museum is beautiful and the art within is also wonderful. Spent time walking around admiring the new collections after you have taken time to admire the outside!

Let's level set here. This is not your NYC or Chicago type of art museum. However, it does offer a nice collection mix in a tranquil and scenic section of town.
