This is a small museum well worth the visit if you are in Des Moines. It has building by 3 important architects; Eliel Saarinen, I.M. Pei and Richard Meier. See how each architect's solution is unique and relevant to their collection. The guards are actually wonderful guides as well. They know the art in the galleries, be sure to use... More

Nice art center. Beautiful pieces. It does have the feel of the Chicago Art Institute of being followed around everywhere by security which takes away from the experience of viewing the art. Not as relaxing of an experience. A beautiful facility with a ton of fun art pieces nonetheless.

A wonderful building and grounds. Free fun! We happened to hit it between exhibits so not much going on. Mostly modern art which we don't like much but still enjoyed the visit.

There was really a lot of cool and different art. The fabric exhibits were featured when we were there and they were great. One in particular hangs in a stairwell area of three floors. It did not take a tremendous amount of time, but you could stay for quite a bit longer than we did if you were even more... More

I keep coming back to the art center, because it does something you don't expect of a small center in a rural state. It has many pieces in various media, and rotates them constantly. Come back every couple of months, and at least half the center will be different. That's something I cannot say for most art houses, which have... More

This art museum is surrounded by a pretty park with mountain biking trails. They had a beautiful reflection pool outside. The artwork is heavy on contemporary. A portion of it was closed when I went (8/7/15). some of the permanent collection on display, and the outside parts were good. There was a restaurant, I didn't go in.

Much more than I expected. They had a fiber art exhibit that was thrilling, but I am a fiber art enthusiast. However, I believe anyone would enjoy this exhibit--very unusual. I loved the museum because it has a nice flow to it. The volunteers are so informative and helpful.

This art museum was enjoyable. The architecture was the major draw for me and it is unfortunate that the windows aren't uv treated so they can be uncovered in the second building. However, it is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours and it is free.

We're so happy to hear you had an enjoyable time at the Art Center! Unfortunately, the windows in our I. M. Pei building had to be temporarily covered due to the sensitive nature of some of the materials in our current fiber art exhibition. When the exhibition ends in early August, our windows will be uncovered. We hope to see... More

the dsm art center is beautiful inside and out. it doesn't keep the interest of kids - maybe for an hour. for adults, i think this is easily a 1/2 day adventure. they also have great art classes and summer camps.
